I have had the longest, worst weekend of my life! My grandma had a stroke this weekend, and some bleeding in her brain. My grandpa didn't want to ride in the ambulance with her, and on the way to the ER, he had an accident and totalled his car. Luckily, all he got was a scratch on his head. Needless to say, I have been traveling back and forth to the hospital (approx. 2 hour drive each way), and I'm exhausted. My grandma is left handed so it has affected her patience. I wish there was more I could do for her, without having to travel, and miss work, and expect someone to take care of my kids....

Thinking of you. My Dad had several strokes and was also left handed. Take care of yourself during this difficult time, especially with all of the traveling you are doing.

My thoughts are with you and your family. Forgive me for sounding stupid, but, what does left handedness have to do with strokes?

Because my dad was left handed he had a lot more issues with speaking and walking, etc. It has been a while ago, but I think he was paralyzed on the right side and if he would have been right handed it wouldn't have had the same effect. But, again, it was probably 20 years ago since he had the first one. So, I could be entirely wrong, but it had to do with how the brain was trained and he happened to have the stroke on the wrong side and it affected a lot more areas.

Raiderette, My mom had a stroke 2-1/2 years ago. My mom's doctors and rehab workers were very good at explaining the ins and outs of a stroke. I could not put it in my own words so found this site: http://medicalcenter.osu.edu/patientcare/healthinformation/diseasesandconditions/strokes/types/If you click on Effects of Stroke (or something like that) it explains how different areas of the brain are affected. With that out of the way, I will be praying for you and your family.
