...is expected to announce he is entering the NFL draft today. In my mind he is the best pro-style running back coming out this year. Sure Bush is Mr. Excitement, but White is the workhorse back that a team can rely on. My list of running backs and the order they should be taken looks like this:

Lendale White
Reggie Bush
Brian Calhoun
Deangelo Williams
Maurice Drew
Marcus Williams
Lawrence Mulroney
Taurean Henderson

What does everybody else think??

Green Bay is drooling over Lendale White. White will not go first, though he probably ought to. Bush will go first.

Every mock I have seen has AJ Hawk going to the Pack. LenDale is essentially a Steeler already too.

I realize Bush will probably go first, my statement is he shouldn't. If Green Bay picked up White that would be interesting. He makes Green movable which would open up some salary cap room.

Even if the Bush/Sayers comparison is only marginal, there is not a GM alive who wouldn't want him. Jim Brown, Gale Sayers and B Sanders. These are the best RBs of all time on talent. LenDale White should prove to be a very good NFL back but it would be foolhardy to not look at the economics of picking Bush. Draft on relative value, not perceived need.

As Mel Kiper says, "Bush is a situational back, 10-15 carries, 5-10 passes, and return duties." The relative value is this, Lendale White had 27 TD's backing up Bush. Bush used his speed to make himself look good in the most overrated conferance in football and against much inferior foes. In the NFL everyone is fast he won't be able to live by speed alone. White is a strong back who can run between the tackles, the value of that is undeniable. Further, White proved he can play on the big stage in the championship game while Bush faded into the background.

White 3,159 career rushing yds, 52 rushing td's, 331 career rec yds, 5 rec tds.

Bush 3,169 career rushing yds, 25 rushing td's, 1,301 career rec yds, 13 rec tds.

The Gale Sayers comparison is this: world class speed AND the ability to stop on a dime. The Texans are fools to pick him instead of gaining extra picks and picking Ferguson who can become a Walter Jones-type. Personally, Leinert and Young would be ahead of Bush due to their position. Value is this: can you trade down, get extra picks and still get LenDale? Without a doubt. Can you do the same with Bush? Not a chance.

using that reasoning I understand your value view and agree. I also think they should trade down for Ferguson, the question is... how far down can you trade and still get him?

Anywhere I want to be
The decision is going to be whether or not you want a power back or a break-away back.

I agree. If a team at the top of the draft wants White instead of Bush, they trade down to get him. They'll pay less for what might be a better back and they also get cash, a player, or another draft pick. And if he is not available, I think it is still a good deal and maybe you could make a trade with whoever picked him before you have to make your pick. It's strange, but not unheard of for a player to be picked and traded in the same draft.

No later than 4. But that could garner a team's #1 pick the following year and additional picks in the draft this year. That is how valuable the #1 pick is this year. There are 2 franchise QBs and Gale Sayers clone.

Lendale and Bush aside, DeAngelo Williams just might be the best back available. He could be another LaDainian.

I am just thrilled at the possibility of the Eagles being able to get Chad Greenway.

Eli and Phillip come to mind.

Is that you Ron? I never saw a response to my Vikings hiring your OC as our head coach.

Yes it is me. I am obsessed with the NFL draft. I never saw your comment about Childress. I really cant give you much. I know he's been atop a lot of peoples' wish lists for some time. But he didn't call the shots in Philly. He certainly can't be worse than Tice. And he should be able to utilize the weapons you guys have.

I hope so, we hired the secondary coach from Tampa Bay to be our defensive coordinator. I am kind of hoping for a mid round Qb in the draft maybe Jacobs or Smith. You guys looking at a QB?

No QB. McNabb is fine for us. He's deficiencies as a QB are exacerbated by the offense they run. But with that said, they will troll for a backup in FA not use a pick on an heir to McNabb. Who coincidentally will be a nice value pick for fantasy next year. If I were you, I would look at the Cutler guy from Vandy.

He is getting high praise, the thing is with Culpepper up in the air who knows??? I saw a mock with the Vikes draft Maroney, I think that would be a moronic move.

What do you dislike about Maroney? Or would you prefer another position or player that may fal there? Cutler could be a good steal.

I think we have enough RB's as it is. Even if we don't bring back Bennett, and Smith gets suspended again. We have Moore, Williams, and Faison. Further, if you think you need a RB then go after one of the free agents.

So then what are you eyeing as a need?

I doubt Lendale will be there when the Steelers pick.
