I had a Branch Mgr call me this AM in a panic. She saw on the news where customers should make sure that the vendors they are using truncate their acct numbers on the receipts. I do recall hub-bub related to that coming, but can't find any of the documenation related to it. Several of our locations have the old "knuckle-buster" machines (you run the roller over the card and carbon receipt, hoping you don't hit your knuckles). I also think I remember seeing an extended compliance time for those machines (basically, we must replace them). Where can I find that info or am I dreaming?

The provision requiring the truncation of card numbers is found in section 605(g) of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. It only applies to electronic machines, not to "knuckle-busters." There's nothing in there that requires replacement of the manual machines. However, Visa and/or MasterCard might have such a requirement.
