For those of you who are either astronomy buffs, sci-fi romantics, or just plain fascinated by the possibilities contained in extrasolar planets (planets in solar systems other than ours)... here's a link to someone who renders paintings of what these systems could possibly look like. Extrasolar Art So far we are yet to discover a planet that could in of itself be close enough to Earth to support life as we know it. However, there's nothing to say that moons orbiting these Jupiter-like planets couldn't...

The newest edition of Astronomy magazine covers an article about a new device/machine that was designed to locate planets not located in our galaxy, or any type of solar/galactic entity that previous instruments could not detect, it's pretty damn cool.
hey czar, I wrote a paper a while back about the application of Fibonacci sequence to the birth of star systems, what do you think?

I bet no one here is familiar with Drake's Equation?

You don't have one clue to what Drake's Equation is!

What then? Let me just tell you, it's an extremely long and complicated equation used to test the existence of extraterrestrial beings.

For those who don't know, but care, essentially, the Drake equation estimates the number of civilizations in our galaxy that we may eventually come into contact with.
I am not too big on presupposing the number of civilizations that may or may not exist. I am much more interested in theorizing on the mere possibility of extraterrestrial life and its components.
For what it's worth, I loved Carl Sagan's attempt to describe what life might be like on Jupiter. Very cool and very imaginative!

Yeah, that was on a while back right? The two legged runner creature was cool, but not very practical and the HUGE pancake looking beast was awesome!!

I was too busy watching The Young Ones. I saw an episode or two when it was on PBS. It never really excited me as a book or TV series, but I know it's got a die hard fanbase.

Pirate, I will tell you this, the BBC series is an EXACT adaptation of the book (actually the entire series), its brilliant, it's almost word for word, so check it out (you can get it on Amazon for a great price).

I started reading the book, it was by Douglas Adamson.. right? Seriously, it didn't grab me. I also tried Discworld by Terry Pratchet of Monty Python fame and again, the style didn't grab me. I'm weird that way I guess. I may try the TV show once more. I think I can acquire an episode on BT easily enough.
