Not today, of course. Andy still has that locked down. But I've been observin' and cipherin' a little. Dan Persfull is going to be the one to give Andy a run for his money. Andy has been registered on BOL since October, 2000 and has 3854 posts (as of 4pm 12/19). That's an average of 4.9 posts per day (including weekends and holidays, which everyone knows Andy does not observe). Dan has been on BOL since August, 2002 and has 955 posts (also as of 4pm). That's a whopping 8.5 posts per day. By my calculations, if these rates remain constant, Dan will actually pass Andy in number of posts on March 20, 2005. So mark it on your calendars, children. There might be a new king after all. Andy, are you lookin' over your shoulder? I think I hear footsteps....

David hit it on the head...if I posted more than 2 or 3 times a day, I would never get my "regular" job done. How do people have the time to do their real job and do multiple posts in a day ?????

What I really want to know is how did he calculate this. I would like the formula.

Oh, man I used to love those problems in high school: "If a plane traveling at 300 miles per hour left New York at 10:00 am and flew west, and a plane traveling at 275 mph left Los Angeles at 7:00 am and flew east, at what point will the planes meet?" I forgot how I did it...that was 22 years ago! I still enjoyed it though! MarkB

I suppose I'd just listen for the loud bang and then look at my watch. Good Lord, I sure hope they don't meet!

- Keep 'em short
- get to work early
- leave work late
- don't take lunch
- really enjoy what you do
- explain to anyone who questions what you are doing that posting is a learning experience too!

But who is answering the phone, tackling the questions from fellow employees, keeping the Auditors and Examiners at bay with their constant requests, putting out fires, writing the myriad of compliance policies and procedures, and the countless other things that pop up...and believe me, I don't maintain "banker's hours", as there is no such thing for Risk Managers, Security Officers or Fraud Investigators.

I applaud the BOL gurus who are able to multi-task like this. Believe me, I've seen Jim sit in on a conference call in his office and post to BOL at the same time. Just when you think he can't possibly be listening, something is said that immediately gets his attention and he's all over it with a timely and appropriate response. It is amazing! He doesn't miss a beat. And of course he has a competent staff that are dedicated to their jobs as compliance professionals. Me, I'm not there yet. I would answer more questions here except by the time I log on, which is usually at night, the questions are answered. And I do not have ready answers like Andy - I still have to think things through and check myself, which makes me slow to the draw. Times like today, when I received the American Banker Online article about the FTC wanting banks on the Do-Not-Call Registry, I was not quick enough to post it (still learning all this technology). I have learned so much from this forum and all of you who are SO good at what you do. THANKS!

You can always tell when Jim's staff is due for performance evaluations and raises.

Actually, I think we all have some extra time on our hands since the 314(a) requests went away

Does Dan get paid for his "normal" job? Very Little! * Keep 'em short - Not easy for me to do. It takes me 5 words what Andy and the rest can say in 2 * get to work early - usually here around 8:00 to 8:15 (open at 9) * leave work late - usually out of here no later than 5:30 M-Th &7 on Fri (close at 5 M-Th and 7 on Fri) * don't take lunch - not very often - but do take 3 smoke breaks a day * really enjoy what you do - for the most part - (still have a couple of lenders that I'd like to hog-tie) * explain to anyone who questions what you are doing that posting is a learning experience too! - Nah, usually when they see me typing - they say OH NO! another memo or email getting ready to come from Dan. And you left out the most important one ADDICTION. But who is answering the phone, tackling the questions from fellow employees, keeping the Auditors and Examiners at bay with their constant requests, putting out fires, writing the myriad of compliance policies and procedures, and the countless other things that pop up. - I've learned to cradle the hand set between my ear and shoulder and type at the same time. (Don't suggest a head set, I've tried them, don't like them. Something about always forgetting to unplug them when I get up to leave my desk.) Of course, Andy and Dan are beyond tolerances. Ha Ha!! (Guilty as Charged, speaking for myself of course) Any post counts... And your point is? Frivolity has to count for something! How do people have the time to do their real job and do multiple posts in a day ????? See But who is answering question above. Also, with the check list I put together by borrowing ideas from other COs , and the way our files are organized, I can easily do 4 to 6 files per hour for compliance reviews (of course unless I run into problems). And I do 3 to 5 per hour in a full-blown loan review. I will never replace Andy as King, I may surpass his posts although that is doubtful, but never his superior knowledge in the regs. And the same holds true for me not surpassing the knowledge of Randy, Jim, David, Lucy, Richard, Ken, Al, John, Don and I can on and on. If you notice, I hold my answers primarily to lending questions. When I was a CO with the big bank, the CO's were specialized and mine was lending (although I don't remotely consider myself a specialist). With my new smaller bank, my responsibilities still primarily lie with lending compliance and consumer loan review and I also maintain our loan origination software. So my plate is not as full as the rest of yours so I may have a slight advantage. In all seriousness finding BOL has helped me tremendously, as a great resource, giving me confidence in my abilities, and helping me understand something that I may have miss-read, or been miss-lead on, or just don't understand. Most importantly it has generated some excellent cyber-friends. Wasn't there something mentioned above about "Keep 'em short"

Grist - you sound more like an architect than banker. "Project management, planning stage" I'm having nam-like flashbacks of my college years.

Actually, you have a very good point, and I suspect that, for example, Andy is kind of like an architect in that he has built a solid foundation, e.g. policies, procedures and clearly has a well developed timetable (See his site), more than likely including a training timetable, well documented Q & A or other documents covering each reg at the worker bee level, and goes about his business is a methodical, reasoned manner - no sweat and time for BOL! That is a little like building a house and maintaining it - like project management!
By the way, I’m currently having a house built for me! Planning is everything!
On the other hand, some posters are completely lost and almost clueless. They don't even know how to Google for answers and that, to me, is sad. No offense intended, of course, and I'm not talking about you. I'm just waiting for someone to post "What is a search engine?"

I was at one point tempted to post "What GOOD is a search engine?" .......until I found Google. No offense to anyone who likes the others, but I just don't get at useful info with them as I do with Google.
