News story on CNN last night that the average American does not get enough sleep, and it leads to many problems, including weight gain, bone loss, depression, inability to pay attention, among others. I'm usually good for about 4 hours, so I know I don't get near what experts say I should, but that is all I require. Anyone else?

Now that I'm pregnant I don't get nearly as much sleep as I would like. I can't see it getting any more in the near future (especially after the baby is born )

I'm with you Rainbow. I really need about 7 1/2-8 if I am going to be worth anything.
Now that my daughter is 2 1/2 I am finally getting the rest I need.

I am with RG. If I get less than 6.5 I am usually unproductive. So I shoot for about 8.5. With 9 I get so productive that I stay away from the cooler.

I wake up every 2 hours so I don't get enough REM sleep. I don't want to take medication so I go around tired. Its funny that if I sleep for 1 night I feel wonderful

It used to be 8-9 hours when I was in highschool. When I started this job, I have to be here at 6:45. I usually am with my bf at night so I fall asleep at his house around 10pm wake up at 2am and then go home then sleep till 6am. So it should be 8 hours but with that break in the middle it seems like a lot less. I would say half the time, I dont get enough.

I normally get around 6.5 hours, but really need 8 to 9 to be effective. On the nights I do get to bed early, my 17 month-old tends to wake up during the night, so I still don't get enough sleep.
I can tell a huge difference on the days I do get 8 hours of sleep - just wish I could do it more regularly.

I used to get about 6 or less.
Now that I have my new bed - I really like sleep! I get atleast 8 hours on weekdays, sometimes more on weekends (plus I nap on weekends!). I love it - I can really tell the difference because I don't drink as much coffee, and I'm not tired in the afternoons.

During the week I try to get at least 7-8 hours. On the weekends I used to be a power sleeper...9-11 hours. Now that I'm pregnant, I haven't had a decent nights sleep in months...and I don't see that improving. Even if I wanted to sleep in on the weekends, I have to use the bathroom and/or the baby is kicking me too much.

I wish I could sleep more and more peacefully. I need the plastic bag for the fiance's snoring...

I average between 6-7 hours. I really crave quality sleep time, without having to wake up or get up during the night.

I used to not, but thankfully I have got up to about 5-6 hours a night if lucky vs. the 2 I used to get. I feel so much better, I am much more tolerable to those I am around
That's great Slick!

In 1900, the average American got 9 hours of sleep.
In 2000, that had gone down to an average of less than 7.5.
You can thank Thomas Edison and his light bulb for that.

I like the idea that Kramer had on Seinfeld - sleep 20 minutes every 3 hours.

LOL!
We have a guy that does that during meetings!!! When someone nudges him, he claims he processes information better with his eyes closed (wonder how the snoring sounds figure into his logic?)
