Has anyone heard of the status of the proposed "Reg V"? It implements the FCRA. It was proposed way back in Oct. 2000. Reg V

The status is "it's coming." However, nothing has yet been scheduled so the only thing to do is to stay tuned.

Thanks! I thought they usually had things like that on the pending regulations list - I checked Pending Regs and it wasn't there. It was, however on the FRB and FDIC sites, but you have to go to 2000 and 2001 to find it. I like that idea of a list of the regs that are still on the burner, out or closed for comment, etc... minus the historical ones which were made final.

Someday, a project for the compliance retirement home: compile lists of the longest proposal periods and proposal to final for regulations. The Reg V proposal would definitely make the list.

Chris: When the FCRA regs were authorized by Congress in the GLB Act, there was no time deadline set for finalizing them. The CIP regs were required by law to be final 2 1/2 months ago and are still not out. If the regulators aren't meeting statutory deadlines, the regs without deadlines are probably not high priority!

I fully agree with the other posts. I have heard recently that the delay is due in part to turnover on the committee drafting the regulation. If they take much longer committee members may hit the mandatory retirement age.
