$2.76 a gallon in the western burgs of Chicago, hate to see what the city tax has done to the price in the city of Chicago Good thing I don't have to go there as much or buy gas there. Question, will the high gas prices change your summer plans?

About $2.90 - $2.95.

My summer plans remain unchanged. It doesn’t take much gasoline to act like a sloth.

So Cal
In L.A. County I've seen from $2.79 to $2.95 for regular and $2.99 to $3.15 for premium. OUCH, as my car takes the expensive stuff.

I've seen the news stories where it says there is no difference in the grades of gas, but I do get better mileage and more power from premium.

Saving at the Pump:

Buy at the right time. The day and time when you buy gas does matter. Through Labor Day, don't buy gas on Mondays and Thursdays. After Labor Day, don't buy gas Wednesday evenings or Thursday mornings. It's generally best to buy gas before 10 a.m., because that's when prices change.

Leave the air conditioning on. A lot of people think that turning the air conditioning off will improve gas mileage, but they are wrong. If you open the windows, which you probably will, that increases drag, and overall, you'll get worse gas mileage. So you're better off keeping windows closed and the air conditioning on.

Check all available gas stations. Sometimes when you come to an intersection, you'll see three or four gas stations. Don't assume that just because they're right next to each other they will have the same prices. They could vary by as much as 10 cents a gallon.

And, if it makes you feel any better, when adjusted for inflation, the price of gas hasn't reached a record yet. The all-time high, $3.03 a gallon in today's dollars, was set in March 1981. (That's the good news; the bad news is when the record was set in 1981, you could still find places that would pump your gas for you, check your oil, air up your tires, and clean your windows.)

$2.68 Reg. Unleaded in NW PA - and there's a refinery in town.....imagine that.... I think we've heard every imaginable excuse why the price keeps going up....my favorite happens to be that its "fresher" here.....

Fenway Park
central Mass. $2.639 - $2.719 Ever notice when gas is high so is the electric bill. last year when gas was almost $3 a gal. my electric bill doubled. i called the electric co. and gave them a piece of my mind (not much left) and they said they buy their fuel to genrerate electricity every 6 months and thats the reason it was high. well guess what, six months is up and they have to buy fuel again. coincidence? i think not. we get screwed at the pumps and at home.

Way, way south.
SW FL - $2.91 for mid grade, and +/- .10 for premium/low octane grades.

I am supposed to put in premium, but mix it with mid grade.

I put $60.00 worth of gas in my truck this morning, and that didn't even fill it up. This is sickening.

Well, just went out to lunch and the price went up 10 cents from yesterday. Cheapest I just saw was 2.75. How can it go up 10 cents in one day? Did I miss a pipeline break or hurricane?

See, that's the question they always ask on the radio/tv, but the cost of gas is such a small % of the total cost of a vacation, the question is ridiculous. If you drive 2000 miles on vacation and get 20 mpg that's $200 at $2/gal or $300 at $3/gal. Even if you drive 3000 miles and get 15 mpg, you're talking a $200 difference based on a $1/gal difference in price.

Higher gas prices hurt most those who are in low income brackets and have to drive their old beaters 15,000 miles/year. At 15 mpg, a dollar increase in gas price equates to $1,000/yr -- lots of money for someone making $30,000 or less.
