I took the CRCM exam last friday. The questions were easier than I thought they'd be, but still difficult given the vast amounts of information you need to know. I'm pretty sure I passed, but i'll find out for sure in 6-8 weeks. The ABA guide was very beneficial to read through, especially the end of chapter questions. Did anyone else take it friday? Your thoughts?

Hey Bonne
I have been in compliance for about 4 years and, like you, took the AIB online course and studied my brains apart! Anyway, I was a bit disappointed because it was mentioned by both the AIB and ICB that the examination would be more compliance risk based rather than technical. I don't know about you but I felt that the CRCM exam we took last Friday was 90% technical and maybe 10% risk based. Did you take the 2004 and 2005 supplemental exam tests? I did and based my studying on these exams. The philosophy of these questions was this: white paper, risk analysis, and taks force. What would you do first as the compliance officer and base your answer on the scenario presented in the question. Let me know what you think.

I took the ABA course online and also took the 2004 and 2005 supplemental exam tests. I found the supplemental exams not to be very helpful. I didn't find the questions were at all consistent with the exam (ie no discussion of white papers and task forces). The questions at the back of ABA compliance guide chapters are what I used to study and it was fairly representative of the test. They were a huge help! I was also a bit disappointed with the ABA online course. The chapter questions online were the same as in the book, I guess I expected new questions, which is why I (my bank) paid for the course. If I had to do it all over again i'd have just bought the book and set up a study plan based on that alone. There were a few questions that popped up that the chapter questions didn't cover, but they were few and far between.
Overall how do you think you did?

I took the exam on Friday also -- in my course evaluation I mentioned that I was disappointed that the online course had the same questions as the manual -- unless you are a person that needs the structure of the course to be disciplined, I didn't think the course itself was worth the money. However, I found the manual to be a good reference. The test wasn't what I expected it to be at all.

I took the exam last Friday also. I'm with you, 02bonne, easier than I thought it would be. I don't think I aced it, but am pretty comfortable I passed it. I used the ABA guide (didn't spring for the online course) and it was a tremendous help! The test was more technical than I was expecting. There were just a few areas where I couldn't keep all the details straight (these are things I would "look up" in my day to day compliance duties). I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of us now patiently waiting for our results.

I'm in the same boat. By no means did I ace it, but pretty confident I passed. The only aspect of this process that I don't like is that you don't know the passing score required until you've passed (or failed). I know it's a floating target so they can control the number of certifications granted, but still would be nice to know. I called ICB and they said if you get a 70% you're almost assured to pass.

Thanks for the discussion all. Glad to hear it was easier than expected. I'm taking the exam in June at the ABA RCC. I've got a couple of the ABA guides for study. Was there anything outside these that seemed to need particular attention?

I personally did not find it easier than expected. I was hoping for more precise/"cut and dry" questions and answers. I suppose the nature of the beast, (in Compliance), is there are variables upon variables to assume and contemplate, which make it terribly hard to make a multiple choice written exam. I think I passed, but I am basing this mostly upon my knowledge of banking in general and IQ. Comments?

Is there a way to find your score before the six-eight weeks?

RF - I took the exam on Friday as well. Recommend you to be well rested prior to the test (noticed your location). As stated earlier, on-line course not necessary unless you need it to keep you on track. Very little risk-based, concentrate on the technical aspects. Be careful when the questions ask you about "LEAST" or "MOST" and don't let the double negatives get to you. Rereading the question saved me more times than I care to admit.

There is no way to find out before six weeks. I called Eureka at ICB and she said they need the time for the psychmetricians to analyze the data to decide the passing score and what questions if any, they want to omit.
I'm getting anxious at this point, the anticipation is killing me!

No, I called Eureka last week and she said six to eight weeks. Today makes it exactly six weeks. You should know by the friday after next at latest if you took the test April 21st. I'll post something when I find out.
Good luck to all who took it!

I was told 6 weeks. I don't understand why it is taking so long....if anyone finds out please let me know. I do not want to send Eureka any more emails. The last one expressed my disappointment of the sample supplemental questions not being ANY help in the past exam. The exam was too technical in nature and an open book exam would have sufficed.

I emailed Eureka this morning. She stated the results are not in but that she hopes to have them by the end of this week.

MJC, I asked her the same question and she stated that they had to score the tests, analyze the results for anomolies (questions everyone got wrong), send the test results to psychometricians who recommended a passing grade, then some ICB panel issues a passing percentage once they agree. I'm hoping I know by the end of this week, if I pass i'm going to try to get out of taking my business law class for my master's degree based on having the certification.

I merely wanted to see how many people would click on this thread hoping someone would have gotten their results. By the way,...I talked to Eureka today and she was hoping to have the results by tommorrow. Maybe next week
