Section 113(g)(3)(A) of the FACTA states the effective date for the truncation of an account number on an ATM receipt as - 3 years after the date of enactment of this subsection, with respect to any cash register or other machine or device that electronically prints receipts for credit card or debit card transactions that is in use before January 1, 2005.

Does anyone know the exact effective date?

Does that include this subsection - Does that mean that the bank has until 12/4/06 to ensure that our ATMs truncate the account number?

The subsection indicates 3 years after the date of enactment. I think your math is correct.

The reference in the law is, of course, to the card number on a debit card. Most bank ATMs I've used have been truncating the card number and account numbers for a long time.

During a recent audit, I noticed that one of older ATMs is not truncating the number - I'm trying to determine when the truncation of account numbers on ATM receipts became effective. Has this been required for a long time?

205.9(a)(4) provides the permission to do it. When that truncation provision was added is buried in my grizzled memory.
