It's only about 32 in Dallas and going to be 12 tomorrow morning (as I may have mentioned sometime previously, that is just WRONG.)

To get the degree symbol (°), hold down the ALT button and type in 248. When you release the ALT button you will have the symbol. A little trick I learned typing years of legal descriptions.

What other neat alt keystrokes are out there? I recently was instructed on how to get the ¢ (alt 155). è is alt 138. But those are the only ones I know at the moment.

Burrr.... it's cold here too - mid 50's, and I keep a heater under my desk! Guess I better quit while I'm ahead.

The User Guide Book that came with a previous computer has a list of all the DOS symbols and different character sets that can be produced. It is a Windows & MS-DOS book. Maybe someone in your IT department would have a book with the charactor sets.

This is one of the many things I love about BOL - weather reports and typing tidbits. Thanks!! It's a whopping 9 now up from -9 this morning. We had 1 and 1/2 inches of the flurries they predicted.

My machine won't allow the altand other keys to type cool things. It just dings. Silly machine!

alt + 0167 = §
alt + 155 = ¢
alt + 164 = ñ
alt + 20 = ¶
alt + 171 = ½
alt + 172 = ¼

Try this: Symbols From there, I made my own cheat sheet except for some reason they don't work for me on BOL. Probably some little setting that I need to change.

HA HA HA HA HA HA. Obviously you missed my previous scintillating post about what a joke our 'help' (and I use the term loosely) desk is. However, I have a couple geek friends who probably have a list somewhere and can track it down for me. Soon you'll see me posting very obscure questions and remarks simply to show off my alt symbol skills.

Have I moved to Alaska and didn't know it?

Here's how to check...

Look out the window. Are there more men than women? I mean ALOT MORE!

Are half of them wearing Carharts over their business suits?

Are there rubbers on their shoes (get your minds out of the gutter)

How many of the cars in the parking lot have gun racks? 3 out of 5 means Alaska (i'm thinking of putting one on my toyota celica and strapping a super soaker on it).

Is everyone carrying a glass of wine or home brewed beer?

If all of those are apparent...I'm sorry dear...you're here with me. If so...bring a bottle of wine by my office and we can commiserate together!

If you go to the character map on your computer there are tons of symbols to choose from. I get to the character map through start/programs/accessories. You can search for it if you can't find it. I put it as a shortcut on my desktop. By changing the fonts you get different symbols. You can cut and paste or it will show you the keystroke equivalent.

OK - from South Carolina, it will be 10° (how cool, I used the alt thingy) in the morning and we had at least 2 inches of snow today. I love this thread - I'll be printing it out as a cheat sheet.

Now, about that "HELP" desk...reminds me of a day long ago when my boss said he needed to talk to me...seems the "HELP" desk had complained about my attitude, said I was not "COOPERATIVE". Well, I said, "THEY'RE IDIOTS! I was on the phone for 45 minutes clicking this, clicking that, deleting all my favorite places and bookmarks, starting from scratch, H*** NO, I was not cooperative!" Actually, I was very cooperative, I did everything they said; I just ran out of patience, because nothing they suggested worked.

Of course, in case they're listening, they were very helpful this morning when I was trying to log-in to the network from home on my lap top and got an error message. They've learned a lot since our infamous early encounter.

Yeah, I think Andy Z has a cheat sheet too! I love the Alt 0167 thingy. In compliance and audit I use that one ALOT! I got mittens and ear muffs for Christmas...never thought I would have to use them very much..but definitely here in Oklahoma!

I was in your airport over the weekend. It was cheaper to fly into Columbia, SC and rent a car than to fly to Augusta, GA.

How right you are - my husband purchased a gun for my dad from a dealer here. The dealer lives 30 miles away so they decided to meet to exchange the gun. They decided to meet in the WalMart parking lot. Can you imagine? Not one person thought this transaction was unusual!!

I know what you mean. I will often drive to Charlotte instead of flying out of Columbia because it's usually cheaper that way. Of course, I prefer hitching a ride on the company plane, but right now it's grounded.
