We have found an issue with how the cash ins and outs are being totaled and rounded on our CTRs. Currently if a CTR is detected for more than one account, it will add the transactions for each account, then round that figure and then total those figures so, for example, the CTR has 4 accounts and the total for each account after being rounded at the account level is $5000 so total is $20,000. If all of the transactions in the accounts were aggregated together and rounded, the total would come to $19,998. Will this cause major issues or will the CTR be rejected because of the rounding? The software we have rounds the transactions total for each account up to the next whole dollar.

Am I looking wrong or are both options exact?

We round the total of the combined daily transactions- not individual transactions. if 4 deposits were made for 3,000.01 the total on the CTR would be $12,001. not $12,004. Was this the question?

i read your post and i think you were asking a different question. our automated system will round up but with additional transactions the total drops back the the actual amount. so if we had one transaction for 10,000.01 the CTR would show 10,001. if there is additional deposit for 2,000.01 the system recognizes the total deposits for the day as 12,000.02 and rounds to 12,001. not 12,002.

When I was still working at a bank, we had an ITI system that did what tmj is describing. It rounded individual transactions up and then added them, which gives the wrong result. We actually edited the CTR files to correct the problem before transmitting them. It was a PITA.
