For those who like to plan ahead: The ABA Regulatory Compliance Conference will be held June 2-5, 2002 at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans. There will also be an ABA Sales Management Conference at the hotel on the same dates.

For those who like a little history: (The 1996 ABA Regulatory Compliance Conference was also held in New Orleans on the same dates but not the same hotel - it was at the Marriott.)

I was there. But that was so much pre-Web, many of us did not know one another. Now I have many friends whom I see only at this. It is certainly on my calendar.

This may have been the first year the Internet was taught, at least for use as a tool. Richard Insley taught that class.

I think Richard brought the Internet information down from some mountain on stone tablets, didn't he?

Take it easy, Leslie. Some days I feel like I've been in banking that long, but Al's been around longer. :-)

e-Compliance was truly a novelty in Q2 1996. About half the attendees were still trying to figure out how to get Internet access, and the other half (minus Andy, of course) were trying to learn how to use it. Only a few hundred banks had websites, but we all saw where it was headed. Who could have guessed the variety of online violations that would pop up in the ensuing 5 years! We were hearing that the e-Regs were right around the corner--SOME things haven't changed.

Richard,
Al was the one on the mountain writing the tablets, wasn't he?

I resemble that remark.

In years past, we have had a get together to put faces with names. It sounds like we need to do it again.

Al said, "It sounds like we need to do it again.". That almost sounds like a threat considering the text in the rest of the string.
