Where do they get these random times from? What makes them choose a time like 2:38 over 2:30, 2:45, etc?

So Bimmer do you sit at NASA waiting to find out if they will launch or not?

The launch times are calculated by when the ISS (International Space Station) is closest, in order to conserve fuel. Due to the slightly oval shaped orbit, the times change on a daily basis.

I just go in on my normally scheduled days and if it happens to go, it goes.

I just found out, however, that during the Post Scrub inspection, there was a crack found in the insulating foam on the External Tank . No word yet on weather or not this will affect the launch.

I just heard that, too. Here's what the ABC Breaking News said:

INSPECTORS REPORT A 5-INCH CRACK ON SHUTTLE'S EXTERNAL FUEL TANK; NASA WILL HOLD 10 A.M. BRIEFING

Sounds pretty significant.

I hope they call it off for now. While it would be really cool to be able to lift off on July 4th, I don't think I'd want to risk my life to do so.

Way, way south.
They are not sure now if it will launch tomorrow.

There is a four or five inch crack in the foam covering in a seemingly crucial location on the shuttle.

Just heard it on the news.

Oops, missed the above post.

That stinks, I was looking forward to it. Better safe than sorry, though.

NASA has determined that the loss of this small chunk of foam (about 3 inches) will not be detrimental to the launch. They are going to continue to attempt to launch tomorrow.

They are still looking into the whole situation and will hold another press conference at about 6:30.

That's for the entire space program, not just the Shuttle program.

Well, they made it! I wonder if they could see all the fourth of July fireworks from up there?

Did everyone see the launch yesterday? If anyone is interested, I did video the launch and you can see it Here!

As you can tell by the video, it is a bit difficult to hold the camera steady when the ground is shaking so much.

Enjoy!

I'm so relieved... I was on the edge of the love seat as I was watching the broadcast... hoping and praying that all went well.. so thankful it did.
