SecureCode: Raising Awareness and

Lowering Risk in e-Commerce

WIN-WIN WAGER

The SecureCode survey demonstrates that raising awareness of the cardholder authentication service breaks down barriers to online shopping and that consumer awareness of SecureCode can be measurably boosted by an effective
promotional campaign. The survey showed a 50% increase in levels of awareness of SecureCode and a comparable jump in usage of the service compared to a similar survey carried out
16 months earlier.

The survey results reveal that users are more likely to purchase online and to do so more often (four out of ten) with a card enrolled in the SecureCode service. Having the service also encourages users (37%) to try shopping at less familiar
merchants. Moreover, SecureCode users report that the service, in general, is delivering on their expectations.
“By providing an added layer of protection for e-commerce, SecureCode is a win-win proposition for online transactions,” says Brian Morris,

Advanced Payments Product Specialist.

“It boosts cardholder confidence in online shopping and lowers the risk of chargebacks for the merchant.”

SAFER SHOPPING

The SecureCode system employs a unique private code for the cardholder, which is used to authenticate the user,
thereby reducing fraud and guaranteeing payment to the merchant. SecureCode uses the Universal Cardholder Authentication Field (UCAF), which produces explicit evidence, similar to a signed sales receipt, of a cardholder’s
participation in an online transaction.

“The bottom line is that by reducing uncertainty in online transactions,SecureCode is making the internet a safer and more secure space to shop which benefits consumers, merchants, member banks and MasterCard alike,” concludes Brian.
