Here is a video of a girl from Oklahoma City who will be attempting to break the record for most consecutive pirouettes. She currently holds the record herself at 36. Alicia will be featured on Regis and Kelly on Friday, September 15th. I guess in practicing for this she completed 38. I have seen her dance in the Oklahoma's Outstanding Teen Pageant and she is amazing. I think she is only 14 or 15. This video was in tap shoes on a wood floor in front of 5 official witnesses and about 100 people. She made 10 attempts; 19 27 15 14 29 36 33 25 31 23. A Guinness World Record.

Darn! I know she did 38 one day practicing for this. I'm sure she would be nervous doing it on National TV. How many did she get? I had my VCR recording it.

Its where you stand on one foot and spin around and around and around and around, 36 times and then fall down.

Pirouette
[peer-WET]
Whirl or spin. A complete turn of the body on one foot, on point or demi-pointe. Pirouettes are performed en dedans, turning inward toward the supporting leg, or en dehors, turning outward in the direction of the raised leg. Correct body placement is essential in all kinds of pirouettes. The body must be well centered over the supporting leg with the back held strongly and the hips and shoulders aligned. The force of momentum is furnished by the arms, which remain immobile during the turn. The head is the last to move as the body turns away from the spectator and the first to arrive as the body comes around to the spectator, with the eyes focused at a definite point which must be at eye level. This use of the eyes while turning is called "spotting." Pirouettes may be performed in any given position, such as sur le cou-de-pied, en attitude, en arabesque, à la seconde, etc.

There's a video of one here.

She is the friend of some of the kids whose parents I work with so we all ended up watching it. I think they said she did 17 or something like that. They were going to give her another chance but for some reason they ended up not doing that.

I certainly can't say that I ever did that many, but as a ballerina in my way younger days, you spot a place with your eyes and you don't get dizzy. But like I said I probably never did more that a dozen or so. Oh so long ago!
