When my parents would leave me with my younger sister (who is 10 yrs younger than me) on fridays, and wouldn't come home until monday right before I had to walk to school, I would cook dinner read to her I was pretty much her mom until I was 18. Doing all this while my parents were off shooting up cociane, drinking, and god knows what else. I think that was pretty honorable.

So which of the two did you banish from his life? (sorry, couldn't resist)

SP thanks for starting a great thread. Every year I have a Relay for Life team for the American Cancer Society, and I participate in several other events for the American Heart Association and Junior Achievement. I also participate in events during the year through my bank that benfit local organizataions. It's important for everyone to give back to the community.

An uplifting story.

There was a story on the Cleveland news two nights ago about these kids (9 and 11). Every year they go and buy about 40 pumpkins and set up a stand and sell the pumpkins in the neighborhood. Then they donate all the proceeds to charity. Well, this year, someone came in the middle of the night and smashed all their pumpkins. The mom was saying how this year was shot, but they would be back next year in full force. So a local farm donated 100 pumpkins (and $500.00) so the boys could have their pumpkin stand. For all the people who say there is nothing good on the news, I offer this story as proof they are wrong.

Every year I take part in the BMW "Drive for a Cure" for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Oh and a couple times a year one of the bar's on the beach holds a charity fundraiser. M.I.L.F. Strip Dodgeball.
No, Seriously, they really do!

Somehow, I manage to donate some money to that each time they have it.

I am pretty shy, so it isn't easy for me to get out and do things. However, I worked at my church yesterday and introduced 3 news families in the community to what we have to offer. I also do Relay for Life every year. My cousin (8 at the time) organized it at her school after her father died.

Further South than I wanna be.
Well, I am just off a weekend of heading up our Christmas in October project. The bank adopts a house and does home improvment projects. We had about 30 volunteers and practically gave the lady a new kitchen plus did other repairs.

I also volunteer with the Police Athletic League, serving as board chair, helping them raise money, open new centers and for the next year, helping them bring the national basketball tournament to KC.

During tax season I volunteer to prepare taxes for low-income families. I also train the volunteers.

I really like volunteering and doing for others.
