FOX News is reporting Ed Bradley passed away at 65 years old of leukemia...

I don't really watch 60 minutes very much, but I didn't know he had cancer...

very sad why? because you knew him personally? or because he is famous and you think that is what you are supposed to say? I don't think it is any great journalsitic loss, his reports were condescending and biased. I'm sure his family is grieving, but many more unfamous people die daily and I don't hear anyone bemoaning how sad it is...

sad because he died and i liked to watch his reports on 60 minutes, mr resident curmudgeon. sad because cancer is a terrible thing. and sad for anybody's family who grieves from the loss of a loved one. is that okay with you? when people start posting about "aunt doris" dying we can discuss this again.

I think it's sad because 65 is still relatively young!

I think it's sad and I'm not going to be bullied into providing a reason.

the thing is, unlike "aunt doris", we all "know" ed bradley; there is a common thread. the curmudgeon is comparing apples to oranges.

I don't know him, he is some guy on TV that does a poor job. if you consider that to be a personal contact, bully for you. Please remember to send flowers...

happy, he is something that some posters have in common. people here commiserate about their jobs. this isn't much different. if other people enjoyed him, and we are sad we won't be able enjoy him anymore, sad that we have ALSO been touched by cancer, sad that we empathisize with what it is like to lose someone close why can't we just mention it here? why must this disgust you so much?

It doesn't disgust me, I find it humorous that people actually think they have a "connection" to someone on TV...

No, happy, they have respect for a man who, whether you liked his reporting style or not, advanced the cause of African Americans in the field of journalism. His list of accomplishments is overshadowed only by the esteem held for him by those who did know him or meet him. He was, as they say, a gentleman and a scholar.

So, if you can't say something nice, please show some respect by not saying anything at all.

Beg to differ on the gentleman and scholar part...I have no respect for someone in a position that he held that espouses racial issues that are untrue...which Mr. Bradley has done on more than one occasion in NO...

Let he who is free from sin cast the first stone. Hap, we all fall short of the mark some times. We are looking at all the times when he didn't.

If the situation were reversed and it was a conservative journalist with a liberal poster bashing him in a RIP thread there would be so much whining about respect.

No one here said they had a personal connection to this man, but those of us who respected his work should be able to express it without someone (even after being asked to stop) constantly bashing us and the deceased. It's really in poor taste.

I haven't bashed anyone, just asked a few pointed questions trying to determine why someone would think this is such a tragedy.

I'll bash now...

well, you certainly know about poor taste. Pretty much any of your posts define poor taste
