Yeah the suit stunk, but the PM never reigned him in to correct or change it.

That's a hard one to detrmine, because they only show us the very short edited portion. Figure they had to be working on it for hours. I actually would have fired Michelle.

Those boardroom meetings last for two or three hours, we only get maybe five, ten minutes of content.

I would have kept Michelle around a bit too I think...those are always the fun ones to watch hang themselves later on.

Notice how they all seem to have gotten to the point where it becomes a shouting match, and the one whocan bark the loudest and over everyone the most seems to be spared?

Not at all professional boardroom behavior...I cannot imagine watching that action at one of our board meetings, even though it might spice them up a bit!

I think I would've had to fire Michelle. She seemed to be taking the ever-popular position of vaguely criticizing stuff so she could later claim that she tried to warn everyone.

Cary's strategy made a bit of sense--he knew the designer, he believed she had a gay following, and he thought that a "gay" swimsuit would therefore be a good niche demographic. Unfortunately, as Trump said, he really had to appeal to the buyers, not the designer and her fans, and the buyers aren't making purchases for small-scale markets but for the broadest range of customers possible. This was a case where having a little bit of data on the background was worse than having none, since without Cary's "insights" they might've gone more mainstream.

I would have fired the PM. She really didn't do much to make her feeling about the "gay" suit known. If it would have been me, I would have let him know what I thought and then told him that if he still wanted to go forward I would expect him to stand up in the board room and admit he was responsible for the decision.

The other fact that seems to be getting lost is that the other men's suits didn't sell either. That wasn't Cary's fault.

I think they said he was in charge of the whole mens line, just not the one awful suit.

Then once again I would lay that at the PM's feet. If she thought his designs were so horrible, why would she put him in charge of the whole line?

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Cary would have made it to the end, but I think he was a very convenient scapegoat for a mediocre leader.

I agree SP, the PM is responsible for the task. If she didn't like the mens suits, she could have changed them. She thought it was easier to let him take the fall, which is NOT the sign of a true leader.
