Ron, I am just going off what I have heard on the news. If the Gulfstream they offered her can make it non-stop to SF and it holds (I am guessing maybe 8/10 people based on our company plane?) enough passengers, why should we foot the bill for her family, entourage, etc?

Where exactly is the security issue with stopping to refuel?
Oh, and the C-20 that Hastert had will make it to SF non-stop. It has a range of 4,100 miles.

No security issues, there are plenty of air force bases along the way. Offutt becuase of alot of the missions it does has got to be one of the most secure bases and it is in Omaha about halfway there

I think she should get the minimum needed to get her coast to coast, if nonstop is such an issue. I agree with MB Guy-If she can do that in the cheaper Gulf Stream-so be it...there is no need to fly her family and entourage on the taxpayer dime...
I remember a few years ago the Governor of MA (Jane Swift) used a State Police Helicopter to fly home (Boston to Western MA) for Thanksgiving-she didn't want to sit in the Thanksgiving traffic on the Mass Pike-she took a lot of crap for that, as she should have....

In reality though, can the plane Hastert had be able to handle a nonstop flight to San Francisco? SO...should she have equal equipment compared to what Hastert had? Or equal opportunity? Primary Function C-20A, operational support airlift; C-20B, special air missions Builder: Gulfstream Aerospace Corp Power Plant: Two Rolls-Royce Spey MK511-8 turbofan engines Thrust: 11,400 pounds each engine Length: 83 feet, 2 inches Height: 24 feet, 6 inches Wing Span: 77 feet, 10 inches Speed: 576 mph (501 nautical miles) maximum Maximum Takeoff Weight: 69,700 pounds. Range: 4,715 miles (4,100 nautical miles) long-rangeLoad: 14 passengers Crew: Five Unit Cost: $22.2 million Date Deployed: 1983 It's only 2,800 miles from D.C. to SF

why not give her the sst...it can make the DC/SF run in 45 minutes, which includes an in-flight refuel. If she is that important she can be anywhere she needs to be in under an hour. And, the sst is so fast a SAM can't track and shoot it down. It can track and shoot down the other places we are discussing.

Frank- I didn't mean the same exact plane literally-I meant the same accomodations-if Hastert was allowed to fly X # of staff, etc, so should the current Speaker. If the gov't feels a non stop flight is in the interest of security, so be it-she should have the minimum necessary to meet that same requirement.

Then why does everyone say the plane Hastert used CANNOT reach San Fran from DC? because this may legitimately be an example of a biased report. and then the biased report started a biased whisper down the lane.

being a little too literal here... Frank, too litteral? You? Nah...(smacks self in head so Frank doesn't have to) If the President, as leader of the Executive Branch of the federal government, gets a jumbo jet then shouldn't the Speaker of the House, the co-leader (with the VP) of the Legislative Branch get somewhat equal treatment. And then shouldn't the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, too?
and this silly logic is what got us to the place to begin with...or, as my Dad used to say "if they all jumped off a bridge..."

Here's a question . . . .
If the President, as leader of the Executive Branch of the federal government, gets a jumbo jet then shouldn't the Speaker of the House, the co-leader (with the VP) of the Legislative Branch get somewhat equal treatment. And then shouldn't the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, too?
Just wondering . . . . the president is the statesman in chief as well as the cjief executive; he has a need to be every where. the "head legislator" really only has a need to be in DC and to keep the presidential ascendency unclouded.
