If an individual opening an account does not have a SSN or ITIN, how do you document. What I'm getting at is if the w-9 certification is included on your signature card/deposit agreement, do you just leave that portion blank if the customer does not have a SSN or how do you handle that?

If they are not a US Citizen, you must complete a W8BEN. You can find this form on the IRS web site http://www.irs.gov/

Actually - it is if they are not a U.S. Person. Citizenship is not a determining factor.

I believe a W-8BEN is NOT required for a non-U.S. person if the account is non-interest bearing.
