sounds like the cold war on a different scale: wait out the enemy until it collapses upon itself.

Either another BOLer or a journalist mentioned the same thing a few days ago. You may be onto something. Only time will tell.

I think they will end up causing a bit more trouble before they get around to collapsing on each other. I can see a revolution of some sorts in their future. A friend of mine was just there a month or two ago, (wrestler) and he was embraced by the young people, they want change.

There has been a democratic movement among students in Iran for some years now. Of course, we do not know if the West has been covertly fostering the movement, but if not, it definitely behooves us to do so.

over 100 million people were slaughtered before communism collapsed on itself. Is that a price you're willing to pay?

Did anybody catch the press conference by the 15 British soldiers today?

Basically they said that everything they said while being illegally paraded around on TV was BS. And they have proof that they were not in Iran's waters when they were captured.

Interestingly I was listening to Glenn Beck today and Condi Rice was supposed to be on. But while the press conference aired they got a call that something of great importance came up and she would not be able to make it on.

While it is good to know the details, is anyone truly surprised?
It was obvious all along (except to morons like Eleanor Clift)that the Iranians were up to no good from the getgo, and that these servicemen/woman were being coerced.

The Iranians gambled, and then it got too hot for them. But the West still blinked.

He made a statement regarding the costs of waiting and asked if you were prepared to incur it. If you require further explanation, please advise.

ah, so i SHOULD engage in an apples and oranges debate because the IRAN dynamic is the same thing as communism in russia.

No need to debate; you engage in apples and oranges comparisons within your own arguments.

LOL. If I may interject, and correct me if I am wrong Ron, but I think that Ron was making an observation that it appeared to be turning into another cold war, rather than statingg that he hopes the situation becomes another cold war.

ah, so there are NO costs incurred if we employ the strategy of waiting out the Iranian regime?

so we should invade?

(when did suggest anything other than there being an empirical similarity POINTED OUT IN THE ARTICLE but i said it was apples and oranges to frame it in the way the good flag-waving conservatives want me to)

i don't think so. especially given the events that have transpired and the commentary i have read from people who study that country and who have opined as to what it means.

i'm guessing you want to though. as long as we "don't have to fight them here in pleasantville", right?

right?

yeah, that was pretty much it. i saw similarities but there are differences in scale. and based on the speed with which events seem to be transpiring, i'd say it is smaller with regard to iran.

If it were up to me, I would say heck yes lets invade them. But given our current situation, troops in Iraq and Afghanastan and our lack of political support. I would say it won't happen. Iran would have to do something really dumb to warrant an attack. Like, going into international waters and taking prisoners (an act of war). Then holding them for 15 days so that you can get a confession that they were in Iranian waters. Then letting them go once they have shown the world that you did not make a mistake. Only to return with proof that Iran did.

Kidding aside, it would be hard to justify an invasion without Iran justifying it for us. I think we are more likely to invade based on Iran providing weopons to insurgents.
