Electric bills obtained by The Tennessean, however, showed that Gore is paying a premium on his bills to be part of the “green power” program. Gore purchased 108 blocks of “green power” for at least each of the last three months, according to a summary of bills from Nashville Electric Service.

That's quite a statement. Care to revise?

Sure...The Republicans are doing nothing to combat global warming...

Thanks. And good for them. I wouldn't vote for a party that made tilting at windmills a core position.

See _X_'s thread "Car enthusiasts only." That's an acceptable car to drive.

In my opinion, it doesn't matter what you drive. It's Al Gore's opinion that we should be driving eco-friendly vehicles, and he is not. Current hybrid vehicles cost more to the environment to use than 10 years of driving a standard vehicle, even a Hummer.

Actually...that is spin again.
It is not all hybrid vehicles.
It is the Toyota Prius.

Neo, now you're trying to spin. The Prius is an EXAMPLE of why all current hybrid cars are not "green cars".

Actually...I'm not...
Every article mentioning the damage done by hybrids singles out the prius.

The reason every article mentions the Prius is because it is by far the most popular, and was the first one that had numbers out on it. Every article just builds on the Prius because the data is there, it's out, and they can paraphrase it and make a new article without doing more research.

Until you show me an article stating that the Lexus SUV Hyrbid does as much, if not more damage then a Hummer, I'll have to take the stance that it is the hybrid.

And BF...the articles state the production "costs" of the Prius, but not the Hummer. How come? What kind of damage does Hummer production cause?

If you accept the premise that the production of the Prius does more damage than a Hummer, and that the margin is not overcome by lower operating costs in a reasonable period, can you explain how you come to the conclusion that the environmental costs of producing the Lexus are less than the costs of producing the Prius? It's a larger vehicle after all. The battery technology is the same.

So, your contention is Al Gore is not really for the environment because he drives a hybrid car that you believe is more damaging to the environment than conventional cars?

Even if you can substantiate that claim (which you have not yet done), what if Gore believes the hybrid car is better for the environment?

Does that change the credibility of his arguments at all?

Way, way south.
And, the Prius and the Lexus are made by the same company, Toyota, so you can pretty much guarantee that the technology is the same.

Exclusive: Report Charges Broad White House Efforts to Stifle Climate Research

Quote:
Researchers for the non-profit watchdog Government Accountability Project reviewed thousands of e-mails, memos and other documents obtained through Freedom of Information Act requests and from government whistle-blowers and conducted dozens of interviews with public affairs staff, scientists, reporters and others.

The group says it has identified hundreds of instances where White House-appointed officials interfered with government scientists' efforts to convey their research findings to the public, at the behest of top administration officials.

The report is slated to be released tomorrow at a hearing before the House Science Committee, which is investigating the issue.

Wow, Frank, a "non-profit" adovacy group? Who would have thought that an advocacy group would operate without trying to generate a profit? They must be completely unbiased!

Oh, wait, are you trying to distract me from the obvious question I asked earlier? You are so darn sneaky...

CIA and the Pentagon urged to assess warming's effect on security

Quote:
The bipartisan proposal, which its sponsors expect to pass in Congress with wide support, calls for the director of national intelligence to conduct the first-ever "national intelligence estimate" on global warming.

The effort would include pinpointing the regions at highest risk of humanitarian suffering and assessing the likelihood of wars erupting over diminishing water and other resources.

The measure also would order the Pentagon to undertake a series of war games to determine how global climate change could affect U.S. security, including "direct physical threats to the United States posed by extreme weather events such as hurricanes."

The growing attention to global warming as a national security issue could open new avenues of support for tougher efforts to limit greenhouse gases, specialists say.

Sure...you want the GOP to pay attention to something...tie it to military spending...

Buying credits is the biggest bunch of BS that has come along in a while. He buys credits from a company that he owns. And they do what? Plant trees?

Planting trees 'contributes to global warming'

Well if there is global warming, why do I have to set my heat up to 68 in April? I'm having a real problem with this. The peach crop is devasted in SC and NC as well as many other crops. My herbs are all dying, as they usually come up this time of year. Easter Sunday the priest said that he felt he should be celebrating Christmas rather that Easter since it was so cold. I'm not buying into global warming. When my airconditioning bill out runs my heating bill, I might agree.

Somewhere vanilla
this whole thing is ridiculous! some people want to ignore the rate of warming because they are afraid of being liberal tree huggers. they want to justify doing whatever the heck it is they want to the environment.

hey, i realize there are cycles, but this is a bit different. we can't take a chance with iran so we need to invade. where is this attitude with our planet? who cares! not in our lifetimes, right? just like deficit spending; who cares let the good times roll!!!
