So, how do you feel when the Jehovah's Witnesses come to your house to get you to realize your job as a steward of the Earth?

How do you feel about Evangelical Christians getting involved in politics?

Why do I ask? Because you are effectively doing the same thing with your environmentalist lies about global warming. It is one thing to suggest changes, and another to codify them into international law.

Do you really think environmentalists are purposely misleading or are knowingly witholding the truth, or is this just hyperbole.

Might want to do some more editting here.

Gee, you poor thing! The food shortage in your house must be terrible.

But of course global warming can't possibly be the cause.
Everybody knows that climate change only affects people in places like Asia and Africa.

your assuming its unique, you have no idea what the several hundred other known planets have for atmospheres. Unique to our solar system sure, but to say it is unlikely that another atmosphere similar to earth's exists seems quite a leap.

can you point to a planet or solar system that we've found that resembles ours at this point? i think you are making too much of a minor point.

Titan the moon of Saturn has an atmosphere very similar to Earth's.

http://exoplanet.eu/ there's a link to the other 218 known planets not in our solar system.

ok, thanks, xodus. but does titan have life on it? part of what i meant by atmosphere was the right conditions for hosting life. not similar chemistry.

life or no life aside, let's say that's what you meant with this quote. What do you have to support you claim of this being the most extreme temp increase from any ice age event?

Two comments on the link provided:

Did you see the use of the term "semi-empirical"? That means it is based on theory, doesn't it?

Second, the semi-empirical observations only went back 30,000 to 40,000 years. Do you subscribe to a young earth theory then? Weren't there ice ages prior to 40,000 years ago.

pale, i am not a scientist. the word i wanted to focus on was "unprecedented". obviously, if this were the be-all-end-all, we wouldn't be having this debate in thefirst place would we? xodus wanted to call shenanigans on me so i posted a link refering to something i had heard about before.

once again, my purpose in this thread is for environmental stewardship regardless of the truth/fallacy of global warming. i'm curious why others including you now, are trying so hard to fight against anything environmental. why are you being so defensive?

i can't say that I am against environmental stewardship. I absolutely hate when new housing editions go up and wipe out the only place for miles where salamanders are known to breed. Do you think the realtor was thinking about that when he altered the creek line? What about the horned lizards I used to catch as a kid that are now endangered in my state because of habitat destruction? Nobody thinks about what lost a house when they build their new houses.

Plus, has anybody thought about the consequences of change? If you could snap your fingers and every car in world ran on hydrogen and the supply was easily able to handle demand and there were no major economic impact would that be better? The exhaust is water vapor, that can't be harmful right? So let's increase humidity everywhere and see what happens. YOu can rest assured we in the south central plains would rather not have higher humidity. Higher humidity would probably lead to more rainfall, short term that would mean more flooding and erosion, long term probably means better growing cycles and more food for everyone. But with more rain, and thicker vegetation comes more photosynthesis. With more photosynthesis comes less CO2 and more O in the atmosphere, resulting in a more combustible atmosphere prone to thunder and electrical storms. Along with that comes more clouds and with the clouds comes more greenhouse effect thus causing global warming. At least you have more food.

Discovery has announced a new channel, The Green Channel which will feature conservation programming 24/7.

Also, anybody hear about the use of volcanoes as landfills?

My concerns are handing governments and the UN more power and the huge economic costs of reversing even a small fraction of what will happen.

I was watching Planer Earth:future last week, they said the cost of cleaning up America's production would be more than the cost of providing clean water and food to everyone in the world.

so why can't we just do it ourselves and regulate ourselves? and like xodus said, the cleanup is essentially impossible, but it is NOT impossible to reverse how we look at the environment now.

sorry, we HAVE to pay the additional costs. this "well, it's not in my lifetime" attitude pisses me off. and we have the same attitude fiscally as well. of course W can provide all sorts of plans while cutting taxes for the rich; we have a national credit card. though it is ironic how conservatives chastize our society for not saving and using credit while they turn a blind eye to the one thing they can actually effect (as opposed to personal choices though there are many realms where the certainly want to tell us what is best for us).

(sorry, didn't see a soapbox moment coming. it just happened. )

Of course, in their pursuit of radical policies, the liberals have no problem taxing to death everyone, rich, middle class, working class, and poor, with their carbon tax. Typical socialist policies finally begin to manifest in the global warming epic:

Taxation slows the economy, and in this case adds yet another tax burden to the American consumer. Taxing the corporations does not come out of their pockets, it comes out of the consumers' pockets. Again, typical socialist agenda.

thanks. we already know that you are a conservative. this statement is utterly redundant.

i already apologized for the soapbox. let's get back to the environment instead of saving me another $200/yr in taxes while the rich get to save millions, shall we?

Yup, those rich sure rake it in tax-wise:

But ok, no more on this stuff, agreed, back to the environment.
