out of my mind
Normally, I'd just open the door or window, but the news this morning reported a 91% increase in burglery over last year. My hubby & "kids" (2 Great Danes) are out of town. I'm running the a/c instead. How about ya'll?

If I would probably just open the windows on the seond floor.

Then again, I forget to lock my door at night all of the time...

Given the option, I would open the window. But for that amount of increase in crime - AC all the way.

We just got the sun back up here in New England, so we don't have to make these decisions yet.

A/C all summer and most of the winter...otherwise heat...windows rarely get opened, altho there are a few days out of the year it would be a good idea.

If only we could find window screens that filter out pollen....

The windows are open...I love this time of year.

I agree that pollen blocking window screens would be great!

Not a problem here yet as we still had some snow flurries here the first of the week. But we live in the country and the area is pretty crime free. We open our windows most of the time and we only use the air conditioning about a month each summer. And yes, we leave out doors unlocked a lot.

Windows open whenever possible. So looking forward to opening up the windows and airing out the apartment this weekend. Might even sit out on the balcony!

One week ago we had snow flurries, but it's New Mexico. If you don't like the weather, wait an hour and it'll be different

Becca, I'm with you too on those pollen filtering window screens!

You folks in NJ seem awfully brave to me!

Both - AC on upstairs and heat on downstairs. Probably changing both to AC in the next 2 weeks.

Heat is still on but usually doesn't kick on until the wee hours of the morning (still dropping below 30 most nights). I can usually turn the heat off in the beginning of May and don't have to turn the a/c on until June.

Just opened the doors today, finally nice, although we had a couple of teaser days about a month ago. Live in metro Detroit and I can't get my husband to lock the doors, drives me crazy. We are not in a high crime area but you never know. My brother lives in (yes in) Detroit but has a cabin in the middle of no where in norther Mi. He has never had an incident in Detroit but had his cabin broken into 300 miles north of here.

Windows and doors open...finally! Will close them tonight because it' supposed to dip to 41 but back up to 70+ tomorrow and stay up there pretty much from now on.

There will probably be a couple of days this summer when the fans won't be enough and the upstairs bedrooms will get hot enough to put the ac on. Mom and I are both fresh air freaks so it won't stay on long.

We lock the front door and then the screen doors on the yard side of the house. How silly is that? Oh, and all my windows are plantation style - 80" tall, pretty much floor to ceiling. If somebody wants in, they're not going to have a very hard time. The dogs make a lot of noise when someone walks by in the street tho, so maybe they've detered any potential bad guys and deluded them into thinking they're big dogs and not little Cavaliers.

I just put the thermostat on "Auto". When the temperature drops below the bottom setting, heat kicks on. When the temperature climbs above the top setting, A/C kicks on. But we'll turn it off some this time of year and open the windows too.

Ceiling fans are good when sleeping. I had all the windows open this weekend and I put in the screen in the front door. The cats immediately started climbing it. I didn't put it in last year because they were too little, but I may be replacing it sooner than later...
