http://news.yahoo.com/s/csm/20070424/cm_csm/ymartin;_ylt=AlA007yXc_nOXx1Yz2pG2fjMWM0F back in my day, when the earth cooled, there was the phrase, "God doesn't make any junk". I remember wanting to look like a model, and wanting to do whatever it would take to get into the "right" school - have things worsened so much?

I say it is the clothing designers fault, with all of these belly barin shirts and low rise pants to match, it becomes very noticable if you are carrying and extra pound or ten. When more conservative clothes were stylish it was harder to judge. Or maybe conservative is not the word, but when you are wearing layered izods who can tell if you have a six pack or not

They have worsened. Like the article says, the only images girls see these days are the ones from Hollywood of the emaciated blondes and this is the "ideal". Fat is a sin, and being fat is worse.
Thank god for Salma Hayek and America Ferrara. They aren't fat, by any stretch, but at least they look healthy.

I heard at one time that the clothes designers were changing the sizes to be one size smaller. The size is getting smaller and smaller. So a size 8 today is much smaller than a size 8 would have been in 2002.
All I know is that I REFUSE to wear tapered jeans.

EVERYONE should refuse to wear tapered jeans. Stanley Tucci's line in The Devil Wears Prada was perfect - "2 is the new 4, 0 is the new 2" When Andy responded, "I'm a 6" he said "That is the new 14".

HERE! I'm here!
|
I'm 5'6, I weigh about 175, chunky yes, thick, yes, I wouldn't call myself fat, and my stomach is still flat (during the day when I'm sucking it in). I went to one of those sites that tells you what your ideal weight is, they say it's 130 lbs! I think that I could maybe stand to lose 10-20 if I was worried about it, but come on, that site said I was obese! Not only is there an obesity problem, there's bulemia and anorexia. I'm happy with my body, I'm somewhat healthy and what is wrong with me has nothing to do with my weight, and as long as I'm happy with my body, I have the perfect body to all that it is important to.

Can I ask a stupid question? well two actually.
#1 - why don't you women just measure your jeans normally - in inches - like us guys do?
#2 - how the heck can a size zero even exist? Zero means nothing - there would be no material to measure.

My girlfriend in High School was a size Zero, and back then (Mid 90's) it was very difficult for her to find a prom dress that size. I understand that these days, size Zero is readily available.

It's ridiculous! Girls think a size beyond a 3 is large.
You have to try on everything now because the same size jeans or shirt isn't the same size anymore. That is exactly why I cannot shop by mail order anymore and I can no longer run into a store and grab my size - it stinks! I hate trying stuff on!

Size 0 is ridiculous but many girls relate to that like they relate to boys. LOL!

Because, our bodies aare built differently, we have small waists and we have hips... guys are just straight around the middle.
