We recently had a case of identity theft where we could not identify the bad guy. It is my understanding that we should file a SAR anyway marking "Suspect Information Unavailable" ...then explaining the circumstances in the Explanation/Description portion of the SAR. Just needed some confirmation.

Thank you

That is correct. Just be sure you narrative explains any possible ideas you or your customer have regarding how the information was compromised.

Thank you ...the address the bad guy is using is an address from 3 years ago when the customer was living in an apartment complex. Hopefully the customer will be able to pin down more information.

Just remember not to divulge to your customer your intentions on filing!
