Not to mention the Queen of England making a trip for a 2 minute race!

There are very good stakes races all day long that day. It's the SuperBowl for the horseracing set, with a week of local celebrations. For us outsiders, the TV commercials aren't as much fun, though ; )

Yaaaaaaaay, my horse won!

Had a $3 a horse pool here at work, so racked up $57 bucks! Not too shabby!

I didn't get to see much coverage of the celebs which is my favorite part. All they seemed to be focused on was her highness.

Ms. Biscuit - if you live in the Louisville area it's a 3 week celebration and there are some HUGE parties the night before the Derby where the celebrities hang out.

Great race! I was not familiar with any of the contenders this year, but my pick was Hard Spun..I knew that could be trouble when he held the lead til nearly the end...but he did do that...until Street Sense came roaring from behind! What a great finish and what an excited, happy jockey...I was on the edge of my seat hoping he didn't jump right off the horse before he ever made the finish line! LOL!

I saw the last half of the Barbaro special and was very upset with myself for missing the first half...I had my old ancient horse out in the yard eating the only green grass around (over the septic tank, of course!) and completely let the time get away from me. I loved the last scene...of his baby brother who is already being "premonitioned" for running in the 2010 derby.

Then yesterday was Rolex...it was covered pretty well...Heartbreaking for Amy Tryon and her fairly new mount, LaSamuri (sp). I know she's devastated...I watched them live at Red Hills in March this year. Awesome pair...he will be missed.

Wherever the plane lands
D'oh!

How would you like to have a winning $2 trifecta ticket on Saturday's Kentucky Derby and wind up losing $13,240.

It happened to a bettor at West Ridge OTB.

According to witnesses, the man entered the parlor around noon and asked how much it would cost to buy every possible trifecta combination (a bettor must pick the first three finishers in exact order) in the 20-horse field. After being told it would cost $13,680, he left — presumably to visit his bank.

He returned shortly thereafter, purchased his tickets and left.

Here were the $2 trifecta payoffs for the past six Kentucky Derbies before Saturday:

2006 - $11,418.40.

2005 - $133,134.80.

2004 - $987.60.

2003 - $664.00.

2002 - $18,378.20.

2001 - $12,238.40.

Unfortunately for the hopeful bettor, the 2007 Derby $2 trifecta payoff of $440 was a far cry from 2005 and 2002 returns.
