Has anyone read The Shelters of Stone by Jean Auel? I have read the other four but I must admit it took me forever to get into Plains of Passage. I loved the first few books in the series, but wished I hadn't wasted my money or time on Shelters of Stone. IIRC, it was over 700 pages, which was about 300 pages too long. Horribly repetitive (especially explanations of the wolf and horse) - they only way I could force myself to finish was by skimming the last two-thirds.

About half way thru Wicked, a good read for the plane ride to and from the cruise but with the puppy now, who has time to read!!! Maybe I can finish it over the weekend. I find myself trying to compare it to the musical and boy so far they are pretty different.

The first thrid took me a bit to get into, but then it starts to move quicker and is not always so dark....I felt the end moved way to fast though.

For those of you commenting on Dan Brown and being disappointed in the Da Vinci Code and not reading any of his other work - you realize that was his last book - right??? His early work (Digital Fortress, etc) wasn't bad.
Pillars of the Earth - Ken Follett - one my all time favorites In the last month or so:
Eagle Trap - Geoffrey Archer - Not bad Black Market - James Patterson - Not bad The Black Echo - Micheal Connelly - Not bad A Thin Dark Line - Tami Hoag - I like her stuff right now State of Fear - Michael Crichton - Typical Michael Ordinary Heroes - Scott Turow - Good read By Order of the President - WEB Griffin - Not bad The Fugitive Wife - Peter Brown - really good historical fiction and I recommend it.
A Weekend in September - John Edward Weems - Historical account of the 1900 hurricane that hit Galveston and killed 6,000 people - interesting historical read.
The Last Templar - Raymond Khoury - in progress

I'm currently reading "My Father's Secret War" by Lucinda Franks and "Invisible Prey" by John Sandford. Both are excellent so far. As soon as I finish those, I have lined up on the nightstand "The Fugitive Wife" by Peter Brown and "The Lost: A Search for Six of Six Million" by Daniel Mendelsohn. Can't wait.

I've become hooked on the #1 Detective Agency mysteries. A new one came out this past month. Now there are 8. Light enough for a good summer read, not too long, down to earth (not super sleuth type characters, actually the characters are well defined and believable) and the setting is Botswana and the detective is a woman. Provides a very different perspective on life in Africa, written by a expat of Africa. I just love them!

And I don't like starting a series in the middle. Do you know the title?

CurlySue. The oldest versions are in paperback and the books are numbered along the binding of the book so you know which is the first one. However, I'll check and let you know the title tomorrow.
