I am going to the doctor tommorrow, and with the problems I have been having, he may recommend a hysterectomy. I sure hope so. I am tired of living with these problems. It has been on and off for almost 8 years. And "let's wait and see" doesn't cut it anymore. But scared anyway.
Thanx in advance for the thoughts and prayers. I will keep you posted.

Good luck...not sure about what "problems" you're having, but I had mine about 4 years ago. I'm SOOOOO happy I did. It was such a relief to be rid of all the problems I was having, not to mention not being at the stinking doctors office every month for the dumb problems. Recovery was no big deal, the doctor actually sent me back to work after 3 weeks, instead of the original 6, because I wouldn't be good at home. (for some reason unloading feed, shavings, and cleaning stalls didn't count as acceptable activities)

Good luck, life is so much better after. Asked for but didn't get a hyster, but nature took it's course naturally very early after years of incredible pain.

I also wanted to donate my uterus, the doc wouldn't do it. Life would be better.
Nanois, make sure you keep your ovaries intact if you can, for hormonal reasons... That is what my mother did.
Best of luck.

Good Luck Nanwa. My wife had the surgery last year and she said it has made a huge difference for her. I hope all goes well for you!

Thanx for the thoughts and prayers, you guys! They are appreciated muchly.
Went to the doctor's on Friday and was immediately rushed next door to the hospital for an emergency D & C. Doc was afraid that without it, I would bleed out. I was so embarassed by the mess I left in the exam room; MOML was very concerned with all the PAs and RNs scurrying about to help. They were all terrific! The D & C should last at least a month and the hysterectomy is scheduled for July 3rd. Uterus only, but I don't have my pre-operation consult until June 28th, so that may change.
I am amazed at the number of women I have spoken with who have had this procedure. Makes me mad we waited this long. My old doctor back in 1998 insisted that there were no fibroids, no enlarged uterus, no reason for a hysterectomy. Uh, bleeding to death isn't a reason???? Oh, no, let's just try some more pills. Oh, those stopped working, let's try some different ones. Thank goodness he retired, and I was switched to a new doctor. A woman and also a runner, so she understands me a little more. She said, enough messing around, let's get this done!
What I loved was seeing her, 4'11", maybe 90 pounds soaking wet, standing next to MOML, 6'2", 180 pounds telling him what he will need to do for me after the operation. "You don't let her lift anything, OK? We tell you nothing over 1/2 gallon of milk, but I don't want her lifting ANYTHING, OK?"
I will keep you posted if anything changes.

It is weird, I guess, but when I go to hospitals for procedures, like the D & C, or when I had a bunion removed, I like that they treat me like a queen! Everyone is so nice, trying to put you at ease, explaining each thing they are doing, encouraging questions. This is so different from my memories of growing up with my mother's frequent visits to the hospital. The nurses then were nice enough, but there were few of them and they didn't do much to explain things to you or put you at ease. (Mom had heart problems, and was in the hospital every other year with a seizure, heart attack, heart failure, or pneumonia.)

Got a good suggestion from a co-worker. She suggested that I bank a pint or two of my own blood, just in case. I called the doc, and she said it was not a bad idea, although she doesn't think I will need it. The blood center says I only have enough time for one pint, since I should not do that less than two weeks before the operation. But, if I need it, it is there, and if I don't, the blood center gets an extra pint for someone else. So, Monday PM, I will be squeezing out a pint.

Self-directed blood donation is a GREAT idea, just in case. You will be in my prayers, and I'm so glad you're going to get this done and over and feel better!
