Customer wanting to see the 'law' that states how long we must archive original checks. Insisting that images aren't good enough. Anyone familiar with a specific Reg? UCC Code?

We do not have to return checks, nor do we actually have to send images of checks. UCC states we have to provide the customer with sufficient information to identify the items which have cleared. I don't have the statute in front of me, but as I recall it's the date, check number and amount. Look to your state's UCC.

wendy13: The cite is UCC 4-406. A bank must be able to provide a legible copy for 7 years after it receives the original.

You should also check your state's banking code. Some have addtl retention periods that differ from the UCC. Chances are, however, that it wont reqr retention longer than 7 years.
