In my house we would be fixin to fix breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The best dinner to be fixin to fix would be chicken fried steak w/cream gravy, mashed potatoes, fried okra, fresh purple hull peas, and a gallon of sweet tea!

Better yet if momma or mamaw was fixin to fix it!

Have any y'all Northerners tried Fried Turkey w/ cajun seasoning yet?

I'm sorry, but I just don't get that chicken fried steak thing. Why on earth would you knowingly wreck such culinary havoc on a perfectly good piece of beef? Aaaaagggghhhh!

The Cajun fried turkey, on the other hand, sounds intriguing. A deli down the street serves a Cajun turkey sandwich (Cajun turkey, mozzarella, sundried tomatoes on a round roll) that is very popular.

After you try a chicken-fried steak, you'll understand.
As for the turkey, unless the deli down the street has a deep fryer, I don't think the sandwich will even remotely compare to a good fried turkey "a la Louisiana".
Sounds like you need to vacation in the "deep south" this year -- culinary enlightenment is not far away.

What I don't understand is a menu item called "Chicken-fried chicken", Isn't that just....chicken?

I remember the first time I had chicken fried steak I was soooo disappointed because it wasn't chicken. It probably didn't help matters that it was served in the high school cafeteria either

I have tried CFS; I prefer KFC.

But I do like gumbo, crawfish etoufee, Cajun music, and zydeco music.

The first Thanksgiving that my son was in California, he looked and looked for a turkey fryer, finally found one and fried up a turkey to entertain and feed his friends. It was a big hit and has become an annual event, "a la California"! He learned the skill from my ex-husband; oh, the irony.

I don't have anything to add to the turkey debate. I just wanted to make the concentric rectangles even bigger.

Okay - How 'bout we start a pool on when the "Post" count on the home page of BOL will reach 100,000?

I say the week of July 1st.

We're at 90,000 and counting . . .

It looks like the post count is rising at just about the right rate to hit the target date I set back in April!

I was reading it as though yours was 96,113.

Push, slide, push, slide. I need about 130 posts a day. Ca'mon people, work with me here. (Maybe I should stop posting for awhile. I hear the person who nails it wins a virtual vacation to Hawaii via web cam, virtual umbrella drinks for them a 5 BOL friends and Mary Beth may even mess with their picture for a day.)

The addition of the "Watercooler" definitely accelerated the 100k date. And with less posts in the other forums, it seems folks prefer play to work.

That kind of sandwich is definately not Cajun. Cajun's don't eat no sundried tomatoes, no mozzarella on no round roll. But we do eat fried turkey......it is delicious, especially, if you inject Italian dressing in it and season the outside with salt and pepper and rub the remaining Italian on it...(I know that doesn't sound Cajun either). Then you fry it in 3 gallons of peanut oil......(only because that is cheapest) for approximately 45 minutes...that is the best cholesterol on a plate that you have ever tasted.......

It may be that summer vacations have slowed down the posts. It appears the 100,000 mark won't be reached until August, say the 10th. Is there an official pool yet ? I am so looking forward to that virtual trip to somewhere.

Believe it or not, I'm actually keeping record of who guessed what. As people guess, I'm writing it down on a calendar. So, for all those keeping track:
Out of the running:
Uncle Milty (6/9)
ExGovBabe (6/13)
Magic Banker (6/15)
Michelle D & C Williams (week of 6/16-6/20)
Spec Opps (6/20 - hiss 23rd BDAy)
YY2Say (6/27)
Bonnie (week of 6/30 to 7/4)
Checkmate (7/5 his 50th BDay)
AnnL (7/7)
Skittles & Inuyasha (7/9)
IFish2 (7/12 - BDay)
MMason (7/13)
Happy (today)
Mojo (happy Graduation) and ABrown are still alive because they picked this whole week (Mojo went even as far as his BDay 7/23)
So, don't worry, I'll let you know when someone "wins".

Why heck. Take a few days off to reconsider and post your selection in a week or 3 if you want.
