Normally I would just go to the head of our audit dept. but the nerve of him, he's in BERMUDA!!

I am reviewing the Document Imaging Workprogram from the FFIEC IS exam handbook. We are in the process of developing our document imaging program for deposit accts, mortgage and commercial loan files, etc. and I am reviewing the policy & procedures from the compliance side. In reviewing this section, there is a question that states "Define the audit trail detention period". Can anyone tell me what this is? They reference document retention periods but I've never heard of a detention period.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure, but it might be a typo.

I hope so. I did find the following:

"Determine weather policies and procedures are in place to ensure adequate technical training..."

I'm leaning towards the typo theory.

I find typos all the time when using handbooks during compliance planning or auditing. It is usually situations like those, where the letters are close on the keyboard (d & r) or the incorrect spelling (whether & weather), that slip by them due to spell check limitations.

I have been in auditing for a while and I can't recall ever hearing anything about a detention period relating to auditing, so I think it's a safe bet that this was a typo.

I'd say retention period also. But you have to admit, detention period could be just another tool in the tool chest for those of us that are constantly doing battle over compliance. I mean if staff can't play like adults and follow the rules, then treat 'em like children in school and hold them after class for detention.

Maybe detention, until further training is completed.

I also vote for typo the there are two questions above that question that use "Define" and "Retention" in a sentence, so they are looking for the audit trail retention period.
