Customer has a beneficiary IRA with us. Normally any distributions the customer takes from the bene IRA are coded as death distributions. We received a levy and need to take a distribution from the IRA. Can that also be coded as a death distribution?

Yes, in this instance all the distribution code does is to indicate that, although the recipient may be under 59 1/2, this is not a premature distribution.

Please review the levy carefully, if it is from the IRS the standard language excludes IRAs. If they do want the IRA the language will clearly indicate that.
