After watching Smokey and The Bandit and drinking some brews, my friends and I decided it would be fun to get CB radios for our cars.

Anyone have any info on CB Radios; best brand, rules of the airwaves, handles, etc.

Thanks!

My family only buys Cobra brand, and it appears to be very good quality (however, I don't have any comparison).

Not too sure about rules of the airwave, but this will assist in decoding what's being said.

Good luck and have fun!

We weren't drinking that much.....just some Coors because it was appropriate for the movie!

I loved that movie as a kid. I just recently picked it up because i hadn't seen it in so long and i still love it.

i saw a couple at best buy and radio shack. They're only like $100. i checked out the slang terms on wickipedia. Tje ones I saw were Cobra.

I'll have to check to see which one my Grandfather use to use.

I'd try out the string and two cans thing first - just to make sure you like it before spending the real cash!!

The quality is less in the radio than it is in the antenna. Your antenna is what will give you range. I don't know much about the regs for CBs, but I don't believe there are many. There is no license required in the US, channel 9 is the emergency frequency, channel 19 is the busiest channel, power boosters are illegal (these allow broadcasts to be heard for several hundred miles.

I had one in the 70's and loved it. I've thought about buying another since I'm on the road so much these days. I always liked knowing what was up ahead and enjoyed listening to the chatter, most of the time.

My friends are I are on the road alot as well, that's why it would be alot of fun.

As far as my handle goes, I'm thinking Shooter since my last name is Jennings and I'm a fan of his music. I'll be thinking of some more.

Who knows, this could all be a drunken fad! Ha ha.
