I agree with Mary Beth - there were a couple of really funny scenes. I did enjoy the scene with Juan Valdez - that cracked me up.
I have mixed feelings about the theological aspect. On the one hand, I like the fact that the film conveys the message that prayer is normal and that God hears and answers our prayers. On the other hand, I don't like the fact that the film portrays God as someone willing to abdicate his role for a vacation. That is not the God I worship. Overall, I think the bad theology of this movie (and I do recognize that it was not made to be a theological movie) outweighs the good. There are some very insightful comments in
this review. Films portraying a message about God that I liked a lot better include
Joshua (2002),
Time Changer (2002), and
A Walk to Remember (2002). Also, the movie
The Climb (2002) looks like an excellent choice, but I haven't seen it yet.
