Just for fun Folks aN AMERICAN friend of Mine emailed me this and thought to share it with you . REASONS WHY PEOPLE OF THE WORLD THINK AMERICANS ARE CRAZY 01. A pizza gets to our house faster than an ambulance. 02. There are handicap parking places in front of skating rinks. 03. Drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front. 04. People order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke. 05. Banks leave two sets of front doors unlocked and open and then chain their pens to the counters. 06. We leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage. 07. We use answering machines to screen calls and then have "call waiting" so we won't miss a call from someone we don't want to talk to in the first place. 08. We buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in package of eight. 09. We use the word "politics" to precisely describe our crazy process: "Poli" in Latin means "many" and "tics" means "bloodsucking creatures". 10. We have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

That's us, all right!
And we drive 'round and 'round the parking lot of the health club looking for an empty space closer to the door!

In most countries in the world, a picture of the food item is placed on the label so it is evident what you are eating. A package of carrots has a picture of a carrot, a jar of pickles has a picture of a pickle. So what do you think people in other countries think when they see a picture of a baby on a jar of baby food? Or perhaps a picture of a dog or cat on pet food?

Hussam - do Muslim dietary laws follow kosher? As I understand it, kosher basically dictates: - mammals must have a cloven hoof and chew it's cud (so no pigs, horses, rabbits, dogs, cats, etc.) - birds must be covered with feathers - no bald areas ( so no vultures) - fish must have scales (so no shellfish, or catfish)
And the meat of an animal cannot be consumed with the milk of its mother (dairy), with fish being the only exception.

Dawnie, it's a very sad story. If I was ever in a position with a horse that had to be "put down", I would have it euthanized (medically or with a shot gun), and have the renderer take the body to the glue factory (unless I could afford to have it buried.)
A horse that has been euthanized (or shot) cannot be used for food, but it suffers a whole lot less.
Also, horses in this country aren't regulated by the FDA as far as the medicines and supplements they are given. There are many medications and steriods that are given to horses, and these substances have not been "cleared" by anyone for use in a "food" animal. In fact, my friend checked the "wormer" medication she gives here horse. It clearly states on the label "Not to be used in animals intended for human consumption." But since horses aren't eaten in this country, it's not regulated.
So just be aware of that if you are ever offered "steak de chevalier."

Bonnie M : actually we dont go exactly by the rules of Kosher or as you mentioned it , but we are very Much alike with the jews in terms of Food ( our Group of food is a little Bit wider that their's and less strict )
we have a very strange old proverb ( or saying )that goes Like this : Eat at your jewish neighbour Place , while Sleep at your christian neighbour Place )...which means we and the jews can eat and share the same food.

Hussam, there was a Middle Eastern restaurant located in Pomona that had very good food. Unfortunately, the location in Pomona wasn't the best to ensure success, and I don't believe he is still in business. The food was cooked from scratch every day (no prepackaged meat, no cans of pre-made sauce), and every once in a great while he would serve a stuffed okra stew dish.
I haven't worked in that area for 4 years now, so I don't know what happened to him. He was a very nice man who ran the restaurant, but I hope he found a better, more receptive location for his cooking.
I actually know how to cook, but I just don't have time for it! Hey, and don't sell yourself short on that salad. The trick is washing the lettuce and getting all the excess moisture out without crushing the leaves!

I think Oklahoma is the okra capitol of the universe. Some people here eat it boiled (Gross! Slimy!), but mainly it is cut into bite-sized pieces, coated with something (cornmeal, maybe?), then deep fried until crunchy.

I don't know, I think Okrabama would give Oklahoma a run for its money on eating the slimy or crunchy style. Okra in tomato sauce is yummy!

You are right on target with Okrabama! My mother usually served it coated in cornmeal and fried, but I can eat it any way you fix it. Hussam, are there recipes on that site? We're not allowed to look at non-bank related sites at work.

Okra deep fried and naan bread is a real delight for vegans...naan bread is Indian tortilla cooked in an open fire oven - tastes like garlic bread.....

All over the map.

If you come to Checotah in September, we have Okrafest. We have a cook-off to find the tastiest dish made with okra, (Okra Quesadillas have won twice), We have Okralympics, which includes an okra toss and bobbing for okra among other events. We even have kids compete for the title of little Mr. & Miss Okrafest. And we usually wrap it up with a street dance downtown. It sounds corny, but it's actually lots of fun.
