I don't understand what track and field has to do with the Road to Omaha!? Is the Razorback track team going to run to Omaha?

Well, we're back! Rosenblatt and the CWS was awsome!! We were able to see Stanford/SC and LSU/Cal State play. Unfortunately we were the #6 seed in our tourney and had to play our first game at 6:00 Sat, the same time as Texas. Only my 14yr old son and his friend were able to go..he pretty much dissed his older brother when it came to choices of games to watch. But, we came home with the Championship, with two other Dallas teams taking 2nd and 3rd. Also, thanks for the advice about the zoo, it was great! All in all the trip was good, the only draw back was my son losing his front tooth to a really bad hop while playing 3rd base! If you don't have going to the CWS on your to do list, you really should add it....I'm already ready for next year!

I knew you'd like the zoo. It is top notch. Sorry to hear about the tooth.

The zoo was very impressive, even on the teenage boys that were with us. I wasn't sure at first, because several of the exhibits were of critters found right here in my back yard! It was hard for my kids to understand others facination with possums, road runners, wild hogs, etc. But once they got to the dome and jungle, they really enjoyed it! The tooth actually is not a bad deal. The broken one was crooked and an appointment for correction was in process, without the benefit of insurance because it was considered cosmetic - but now both my insurance and the baseball team insurance will cover. I swear I didn't throw it at him! The hospitality and weather in your region was also great David, it was actually one of the best locations we have ever had a tournament, and to win it all on top of that...we really couldn't have asked for more! BTW - Both Us and TX were #6 seed going into the tourney, our shortstop and the TX shortstop, Omar, are from El Paso and they went to school together, my son and H Street are 3rd base and closers, both from E TX, born Aug 5 and Aug 8, both teams played at 6pm Sat nite, and they both won. Maybe it is a sign! Hopefully it means they will win the championship and not that Houston Street will get his front tooth knocked out

Glad to hear we treated you right. We try hard on the hospitality. We also have a close connection to God for the great weather - he is a Husker you know.

LBM--congrats on the tournament!! Sorry about the tooth, most of us never get "lucky" enough for these things to work that way. CWS is on my to do list, and the more I hear and the more I see---I'm just going to have to hurry up and do this. BTW, World Cup Soccer was also on my to do list----not there yet, but I am getting closer. Next month I am going to the women's International team vs Brazil in New Orleans (friendly, not WC). wahooooo!! oops, I mean olè, olè, olè

And Dave - after the last couple years I don't think most of the state getting rain would be classified as bad weather I think you'd agree it is a beautiful thing but it is nice that the CWS crowd doesn't have to deal with it.
Amen. The rain is much needed and appreciated.

Well - poooohey! 5/4 Rice At least it is another TX team vying for the title! My comparioson theory had some weight though, just the wrong one. The only game we lost in our tourney was a 4/4 tie that ended after my son pitched 3 extra innings trying to close, with the go ahead run on 2nd a little blooper over 2nd fumbled by CF let the winning run score - we ended after 10 at 5/4 Kansas City So I guess it was just bound to happen to TX!

Can you say 15 players stranded on base? Two shy of the CWS record! Where were the sticks when we needed them?

The first 3 innings were interesting for all the strange events. Hitting 3 batters with 2 outs and then getting the next batter---OK. Then doing it again, did you see the 3rd strike pitch for the 3rd out??!!!! Awesome. I would never have believed that the rest of the game would have been so good after watching those first innings. Rice vs Stanford for the championship.

This year they've switched to a best 2 out of 3 final series so it won't come down to 1 pitcher. However I still like Rice because of their pitching depth and timely hitting, not to mention an extra days rest. I don't see them losing 2 of 3 to either CSF or Stanford

I like the new best of 3 format. I think you get a better feel for which is the better TEAM, not who managed his pitching to get the best pitcher on the right day!!

Now that the Tigers have taken Alex Sanchez off the Brewers' hands, they may get 15 men on base. But if Alex's baserunning prowess rubs off on the rest of the team, there will be 15 men on one base at the same time.

Does anyone else believe that the championship game has already been played? Texas v. Rice. I really think whichever of them came out of that bracket was going to win it all. Texas was playing their best ball of the year. And Rice is just unbelievable this year.

Soccermom - I agree best of three is the absolute best way to go. Thankfully CBS no longer carries any of the series and ESPN is more flexible to allow for a possible 3 games.
Zaibatsu - I totally agree that Rice won the much tougher bracket and I don't see a third game even being necessary. Especially with the extra day to line up pitching. - Rice in 2 with neither game especially close
