Until this morning I had only heard bits and pieces of this speech. I walked into the office this morning and saw a piece on the attack on the news. I went straight to my desk to find this. It almost brought tears to my eyes. Our nation needs to be this strong and we need a leader this strong if we are going to survive. I don't see that in our future.

Take a listen, and be taken back when America was America for Americans.

And it was done the right way. FDR ASKED Congress to declare war as of 12/7/41. A United America cannot be defeated in my opinion.

I seem to recall the current President asking Congress too.

What is a "formal declaration of war" - how does the Constitution specify that such a thing be approved?

The Congress shall have Power:

To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;

Show me where the POTUS has the constitutional power to declare war.

Yukon, his point is (and if I'm wrong, I am sorry Tom) that there is no requirement that Congress HAS to include the phrase "Declaration of War" in the heading of an authorization of force. At least not yet, as it has not been tested in court.

That is my general point, and it has been tested in court.

My point is that Congress hasn't authorized a *war* since 1942.

Could you provide the cases TT? I've not heard or read that about any cases testing that provision of the Constitution or the War Powers Act having been brought to court?

And yet we were authorized to use force in Korea, Viet Nam, and Grenada.

Congress hasn't included the words "I DECLARE WAR" as if it was a child's card game since the establishment of the United Nations. It has authorized the use of force on multiple occassions in manners consistent with the rights of nations under the UN charter, including twice against Iraq. If you have complaints about undeclared wars, you ought to be whining about the previous President more than you are about this one.

What really peeves me is that this "Day Which Will Live in Infamy" is receiving very little news coverage. CNN is completely silent about today being the 66th anniversary of the attack. But, they were sure to post a top news article about the Commodore 64 computer being around for 25 years.

Yes, thank goodness for Fox News. They are respectful of this date, and have posted a video clip of the original news broadcast -- very interesting.

Thanks for the compliment on the picture. It is the Yellowstone River running through a valley in Yellowstone National Park, about 90 miles away from where I live in Montana. Gorgeous indeed! I'm constantly reminding myself about how blessed I am to live in a place that many people choose as a vacation destination! You'd love our branch in West Yellowstone right now.... they've received about 4 feet of snow in the past few days!

I am very jealous, but nonetheless glad for you, and that you appreciate such beauty in creation.

:Sigh I'll get there eventually.

Dear Tom Thumb,

I don't only complain about the current President. Politicians.. don't like any of them.

Your friend,
Yukon, aka Ops

P.S. I don't like the UN, either. [censored].. I don't like anyone or anything!
