I cannot believe hospitals & health ins. cos.! They are moving him directly from ICU to a rehab center! What are they thinking!

I understand your frustration DQ. When my father in law was ill he was discharged from the hospital with no warning one evening at 9PM when he could barely stand up. Another time we were told on a Friday evening that he would be discharged on Monday morning. He was bedridden at the time and my wife had to scramble over the weekend to make arrangements at a personal care home. He was at the home less than a week before he was back in the hospital.

Prayers for your Dad and your family.

Oh DQ. Start making some calls to see if they can do a transition room for a few days if nothing else. Has his doctor released him to therapy already?

Oh DQ, quite possibly the most frustrating thing about our health care system is health insurance! At a time when we really don't need to worry about anything except the health of a loved one, our insurance companies pull a brain-dead stunt like this! (perhaps I should have said "heart-dead stunt"). I know our insurance co doesn't always listen to my doctor. Those little clerks in the back office with their charts of what's supposed to happen get to make life or death medical decisions all the time without a medical degree.

Your family and your dad will remain in my prayers. May he grow stronger every day!

Hang in there, DQ. We went through similar stuff with my Dad.

Know what you're going through DQ. We have spent the last 5 months dealing with hospital/acute rehab/long-term rehab etc for my FIL. He is now in a nursing home and not dealing well with it. We have learned what 'sandwich generation' means. Our sons are finally pretty much independent, and now we are taking care of our parents. Prayers & ((hugs)) for you and your family from PA!

I'm sorry you have to deal with the insurance company's insanity on top of everything else.
How is your mom holding up?

Mother is ready for the proverbial rubber room.

I went to the rehab center to see him on Saturday, he was half in and half out of bed (he is unable to stand at all on his own)... I could only have imagined he would have fallen if we didn't arrive just then. And, where was the freakin' nurse???? no where to be found.

They now put him BACK in ICU because he wasn't ready for the rehab center (uhm, duh, I could have figured it out!!!!!)


His pneu is back, the pulmonolgist is not too positive about his situation.

He looked dreadful yesterday.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family DQ. I hope your father gets some relief soon.

Maria, I wish I had some magic that I could just make this all better for your dad (and you and your mom of-course). This is such a difficult situation for all of you and I hope that all of our thoughts, prayers and hugs give you some support you can feel during this. Maria, I am so sorry about your family's continuing struggles with health and health care. I pray that things will brighten up soon!

Update: they removed all of his tubes, and are stopping dialysis and have placed him on the hospice floor, there was nothing they can do except to maintain his miserable existence, he agreed to this while he was awake. He is on Adovan and has had his last rites. I said goodbye to him today before he slipped away from the painkillers. Oxygenation 40, BP 52/20.

He is a Christian man, please pray for him. ::tears:: ::tears:;
