Can someone give me the name of a supplier of Robbery Height Markers? These are the colored markers (sometimes it's tape) that affix to the door facings to help identify the height of a robber as he (or she) leaves the building. I've tried calling Office Depot, Bankers Supplies and neither has them or has ever heard of them. thanks..JJ

Hi JJ-
I hate to sound so cheap, but we just mark off our own using different colored tape at 1 ft intervals.
Maria

or try going to Natl Assoc of Bank Security (Profit Protection), maybe they have something.

You need look no further than your local Walmart. Buy a three pack of electrical tape (red/green/white) and a tape measure to use for this purpose. There's no regulatory mandate that you use height markers at all, much less 'official' markers.

Just tell him/her how much money you saved him/her by thinking up that idea!

Thanks for the WalMart Idea. Even though there is no requirement for the markes, many of the tellers are asking for this. I will visit Wally World today and buy the tape.JJ

I'd go for more than every 1ft, after all, 5ft-6ft must cover more than 90% of the population. You don't want dozens of markers but putting them at 5', 5'4", 5'8", 6', and 6'4" should enable a better height to be estimated. Also be sure to pick a color(s) that contrasts sufficiently to be clearly visible on your security cameras.

Actually, I am sorry I didn't clarify that, we start a 6" and go to 7'6".

Hey WT- where have you been, vacation?

Why start at 6 inches?

I really don't know, because the shortest person I know is my grandmother and she's 4ft 7 inches.
All of the branches are that way; my guess is because there are other things to distinguish on a bank robber other than height.
How embarassing, another case of "cause we've always done it that way..."

It's so you can include in the description of the robber whether they were wearing anklets, mid-calf, or knee-high socks - man - everyone knows that

Actually I thought it was so if they were wearing boots, or shorts, or maybe had their dog with them we could trigger a memory.

Food for thought:
If I were at your place, I'd take a real hard look at changing the marker to just one - probably at 6' - possibly producing a higher percentage of times that an accurate height is provided to the FBI or police. The primary purpose is an assessment of height - going for additional data by adding markers is simply not logical given the extraordinary circumstances during which the assessment is made.

How accurate do you really think tellers will be at reading the height marker when the robber is running out the door 20 ft away, with a gun and all the money in the drawer? I think 5'7" and 5'10" are going to look pretty much the same at that point!

While it does assist the teller, normally you utilize the tape from the camera for confirmation.
