I'm very surprised, since he said he would go all the way to the convention! I guess McCain is the candidate.

I'm not all surprised about this. No one wants to spend so much of his or her own money.

How depressing. Well, I guess Mitt will have to be a write in on my ballot. McCain will not get my vote. He might as well be running under the democratic ticket because he is no conservative even though he professes to be.

Maybe he'll endorse Ron Paul...

For those on the right who hate McCain, and there seem to be a lot of you, why do you hate him so?

He is leaps and bounds more conservative than the candidates on my side. He is pro-life, he wants to make the Bush tax cuts permanent, and his stance on Iraq is even more conservative than the current President. Why is there no Republican love for John McCain?

Neo, like you, I don't quite get the hate either, but it seems to stem from McCain-Feingold and his support for the president's immigration bill. One poll I saw indicated that 23 percent of Republican primary voters viewed illegal immigration as the most important issue facing the nation.

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
I've always voted for McCain and will continue to do so. I don't agree with everything he stands for but on most issues I do agree. He's pulling away from the "kick em out" mentality of most conservatives on the immigration issue and that seems to be the key sticking point for most.

I don't specifically dislike him. My concern is that he couldn't beat Bush in '00, who barely beat Gore. Will McCain have a chance debating Hillary or Obama? I don't think so. I think Romney looks and acts presidential, and he has executive experience as a governor and as a corporate leader.

McCain, although a nice enough guy, does not have the total skills to be president, in my opinion.

Every poll I've read indicated that McCain was the only republican candidate who could beat the democratic ticket. It's going to be interesting to see who ends up on that ticket and how this all plays out.

My problem with McCain is the way he has run his campaign. I don't like to vote for someone who plays dirty. Besides, I don't BELIEVE McCain would make the tax cuts permanent. I think he will raise taxes.

Yep.. he's dirty.

McCain and I don't agree on a lot of things.

Edited to add:

But then again.. some wouldn't consider me conservative, although I'm just about as conservative as they come.

As much as all the right-wingers are b_tching about McCain, I'll bet they'll all end up voting for him in November.

McCain is also not well liked because he doesn't always follow the leader - he doesn't necessarily follow the party line - he does what he thinks is best. That's what I like about him.

I won't vote for McCain. But I also won't vote for Hillary or Obama. I refuse to vote for the lesser of two evils.. I refuse to vote for ANYONE I see as an evil.

Bush does what he thinks is best too, but he's always wrong.

Several people have stated as such, and I must say that it leaves me scratching my head. Perhaps I'm not paying close enough attention, but exactly what has McCain done that was dirty?

I suspect we could accuse many politicians of employing dirty tactics. Bush Sr. was accused of such with the Willie Horton ads.
