Help with converting our HMDA Lar file to an excel spreadsheet. We would like to convert our lar to an excel spreadsheet for sorting and fair lending analysis. Can someone help in the "how to" department of doing this. Thanks.

We're using the FFIEC version, if that helps.

It doesn't have an export function? It has been a long time since I actually looked at it.

FFIEC Loan Producer?
In LP, use the icon on the top of the page to produce a HMDA.dat file
Save this as an Excel File With Headers
Open Excel and open this file
Under Data, select Pivot table and go from there

It's easy and the best free tool for scrubbing and analyzing HMDA ever. My examiner taught me how to use it. Andy Z wrote a couple articles for ABA magazine about it too.

If you're using the free FFIEC software, just choose export, then pick "for other purpose." In the Target file, choose where you would like to save it. At the bottom, choose ASCII Delimited. Hit begin. Then open excel, find the file (you may have to change to all files, not just .xls) and open it.
