The car kid crossed the line for me the 50th time he cried.

I was able to determine a few of the ones I really like.. I like the Irish chick and the Australian guy as well as the Janis-esque RN.

Anxious for the competition to start!

I like the Irish chick, the Austrailian guy, and the American curly headed blonde girl who went first.

PS: When did this become Internatioanal Idol, all you need is a VISA anyway?

I agree! I'm already annoyed with him. He's playing the sympathy card and acting like a big baby.

That wasn't playing any sympathy card! That was a young kid under a ton of stress, with absolutely no sleep breaking down while feeling like a total failure.

BF, he cried non-stop at his audition.

I don't feel very bad for the kid because it came out of his mouth that he decided to leave home.

And if I remember correctly, he's my age.. 24.

I don't, either. He really annoyed me..

"I came from nothing!", he keeps saying. Like that means he deserves anything more than anyone else.

I'm getting really sick of the people on this show talking about how they came from nothing, and they're a single mother or father who just want to give their kids something. Get a real job and show your kids how working hard to get you somewhere!

Don't try to say you're there for any other reason than you want to be famous and rich. There are other ways to make a decent living; it's not everyone's 'right' to be rich and famous just because you may have started out with less than other people.

I was very, very impressed with a few of the people they showed last night. I think the final line up this year has the potential to be much better than last year and the year before.

I think the kid who lives in his car is talented, but he needs to pull himself together if he has a chance at going much further. He certainly has the judge's admiration and curiosity in his favor, but I think that won't take him very much further if he doesn't produce. One more audition like he had last night when he got rid of the band, and he'll be out.

I agree, Bugs. It looks like we're going to have more variety.. something last year's finalists definately lacked.

The kid in the car is out - he ended up singin a capella cuz he had a rough time working w/the band despite several chances. He would've been cut eventually, even tho' he figured he was the winner-to-be.

My vote's for the 16 year-old guy, or the girl whose dad died two days before her audition. The nurse rocker will appeal to many, but I don't know that she can last. It'll be a GREAT season; there are a lot of talented folks!

out of the frying pan...
It was all I could do not to start throwing things at the TV when that kid started crying...again. Even Ryan looked like he wanted to smack him.

Is it my imagination or does Paula look......bloated? She seemed to be a bit pudgier than seasons past.

I like Asia'h, Brooke, Carly, David Archuleta, Michael Johns, and Ramiele.

My early pick to win it all this year is Carly Smithson. However, I'm excited to see what everyone can do during the first week to make a prediction based on a real performance instead of an audition.

I wouldn't surprise me to see the car kid go somewhere with his music career as he seems to have a penchant for songwriting. But as Randy pointed out in his first audition, his voice seems better suited for a band, but I wonder about his ability to work with others.

As for the Irish gal, I'm with BF.....Isn't this American Idol?? I have a soft spot for Irish chicks, but shouldn't you have to be a U.S. citizen to be on American Idol?? The guy from Australia, I suspect, may be a naturalized citizen as he's certainly been here long enough to have earned citizenship.

One word.... Colton

PS: And was anyone at all surprised that they picked the overweight black girl at the end? They hadn't filled that typecasting slot yet!
