If a customer deposits a check to a joint account that is made payable to an individual, should the Bank stamp the check "Payable to the account of the within named payee?"

I have searched Articles 3 and 4 of the UCC, and Brady on Bank Checks, but am not able to get my hands around the Bank's liability of using this stamp in this case.

I appreciate any feedback from the "experts" out there and what other Banks do in this case.

Is the payee one of the joint owners? If yes, then stamping "Deposited to the account of the within named payee" is fine.

If the payee is NOT one of the joint owners, I'd think you'd want to make sure you had both the payee and your depositor's endorsements.
