Dad always said that that was why God made rear ends. You don't hit a child in the face or head, you spank them on the bottom where there is enough cushion so no major damage is done, but enough nerve endings that they know they've been spanked! Then, once the crying subsided, Dad would ask if we knew why we were spanked and explained why our behavior was unaccepable. After "The Talk", we always got a hug, so we wouldn't think that Dad hated us.

I sure miss those hugs.

How many people actually READ with their kids these days? That is soooo great!

In my circle of friends, several. I do quite often, especially if it is an immersion book. It is the only way to go.

Also, if there is a book that she is wanting to read that I am unsure about, I read it first. How else would I have gotten so addicted to things like Harry Potter?

I try to tell them the book is usually better than the movie, but kids won't believe me!

The only instances where I have found that to be incorrect are the books that are written based on the movie.

I have a friend that says that Shakespreare also falls into that category because they can't understand it while reading it, but can if they get into it in the movie. I think it is just lack of patience and immense frustration though. I have always loved Shakespeare.

The positive side to it all is that children are what make the world go round. At least my world. It's my turn to savor these years of raising the most special people in the world to me. Sure I hope I'm doing it right, but I am in this learning stage too. I just want to enjoy every second!

Oh my gosh, I'm XX years old and still can hear my parents saying that (or a slightly more colorful version thereof )

Cowboy Fan, is that Roman numerals, or just placeholders.
