It is the first time a former President's spouse ran for office, this is a first for us.

I'm sure when GW was running for office, George Sr. made some appearances for him, but not nearly to this extent. Bill is essentially running for the office, which just seems dirty to me.

When Taft ran for office, Teddy Roosevelt campaigned more than Taft did.

This doesn't bother me. As for the difference between George Sr.'s involvement and Bill's, here's my take: George W. needed to avoid the perception that he was running on "daddy's" merit and reinforce the perception that he was strong enough on his own. Hillary (for a variety of reasons) doesn't have that issue regarding Bill, in part because she's his wife, not his daughter, and in part because of the strong national presence she's built in the Senate while Bill stayed in the background.

Bush Sr may not have campaigned overly much, but the rest of the family did - Mom, Brothers etal.

In those days, the candidates did little, if any, campaigning themselves. It was considered undignified. All campaigning was done through surrogates.

I am not sure when that changed.

So Hillary isn't standing on Bill's merits??? Wow. I would argue that George W. didn't need his dad, who was never regarded as a great President anyway. Whereas Hillary very much needs Bill to be out beating the bushes for her. I read interviews everyday from people who say, well I liked Bill, so I'm going to vote for Hillary.

Poor Pale, the victim of more age jokes. And shame on all of you for making the font so small he can't read it.

my vote was more of a protest vote against William Jennings Bryan, than a vote for the Republicans.......
