A poll for curiosity's sake. If you had to choose the best band of these two classic rock artists, who would it be?

Classic Rock Poll
Led Zepplin
The Rolling Stones

Don't get started, or we will have every band from the 60s and 70s listed. We have such a diverse group with unique tastes.

PS. I vote for the Moody Blues! And U2. And Aerosmith. And...

Home of the 8 time NCAA Champ ...
I would have to take Zep over the Stones simply because there are more Zep songs that I like than Stones songs. I was a teenager in the '80s so both bands were "Classic" to me, so I don't have the experience of being around as both bands evolved.

U2 was a great band at one time, but I lost my enthusiasm for the in the 90's. I am now turned off by Bono's obsession with politics. I like bands who play music. I don't care about their political views, and if they speak up too much about their views (and their views aren't similar to mine) I'll quit being a fan. I love Pearl Jam's music, but I don't care for Eddie's politics, so I don't buy Pearl Jam any more.

Maybe here's an idea for a poll, what do you think about entertainers (musicians, actors, etc.) who feel they're political pundits?

I don't care what they think, but they don't bother me when they speak their minds.

I don't care what they think and they'll lose me as a fan if they don't shut up.

I care about what they think, but they don't influence me.
I care about what they think and their opinions influence me.

Entertainers or Great Minds of Our Time?

I used to enjoy U2 until we actually worked for them. My hubby had an electronics business in KC and they called him to hook up the gazillion monitors that they had on the stage, it was a huge production at the time. We were backstage working and for the show...Bono is a real creep. Ever since then I have banned them from my listening list.

What bothers me is that they think they have enough weight that they can throw it around. I mean, many of the movie, TV and rock stars barely made it out of high school. What makes them such authorities?

PS.. What about Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull. Ian Anderson was one of the reasons I learned to play the flute. He and Wally Parazaider of Chicago. Now Chicago! That was a great band in the early 70s, but sold out and went pop in the 80s.

all i really have to say is The Beatles. They opened so many doors that all kinds of artists have been able to go through and create the past 30-35 years of music. IMO they are the best.

I really had not listened to the more obscure songs by the Kinks until recently. In fact, most of what I knew about them was from their arena rock days in the 70s and 80s. WOW!! I was blown away by the beautiful songs they have. I now have about 4 hours of their hits and obscure stuff. Not a stinker in the bunch. I loaned them to a friend, who is a big Beatles fan and he was blown away. He told me that he now thinks the Kinks are better than the Beatles. I have to say that I was impressed. Davies is a phenomenal songwriter.

I have to agree the Beetles were good and did open a few doors.

But give me CCR anytime.

Zepplin is cool, the Beatles as well. But my all time absolute, without a doubt favorite is The Doors.

Wish I was a millionaire,
Play rock music and grow long hair,
I wanna tell you boys,
About a new Rolls Royce.
Pretty women they come to me,
I give 'em all the third degree,
Give 'em satin sheets,
Keep 'em off the streets.

Mom wouldn't let us listen to the Doors. On the one song she listened to and could understand the lyrics, he sang about "whipping the horse's eyes". Animal lover that she was, no way were her kids going to listen to animal abuse.

Anybody ever listen to Yes? They had complex stories behind their albums, sort of like rock opera. The songs were connected.

I was a HUGE U2 fan in the 80s, but like RGS, got turned off by them in the 90s. However, I think Bono's political views helped shape their music, and during the Reagan era it was refreshing to hear songs that had a definite message. I even joined Amnesty International for awhile! But now the political views of celebrities make the news like those of government officials, and it's just sickening. Has anyone told Martin Sheen he only plays the President on TV?

You're all forgetting KISS and Van Halen, 2 greats! Hey Cub: I love Joe Jackson, was just listening to his greatest hits the other day. Unless of course, you're kidding.

Not kidding at all. Best concert I ever saw. He was playing at Redrocks in Colorado and Berlin was backup band. It poured while they played and just as Joe came on stage, the clouds rolled over the foothills and it cleared up and the stars came out. It was unbelievable. The Greatest Hits collection is really all I need!
