There's not one place in the Bible where Jesus had to abuse someone to make them comply with his beliefs .

the parable of Jesus and the money changers in the temple comes to mind...

and there's just no place in society that calls for such actions

maybe not in your society, but many religions and belief systems in other countries not only call for this, but demand it. I heard on BBC radio today about an Iraqi girl that was stoned by her tribe because she was alone with a man from another tribe. Her father tried to intervene, and was told by his brothers that if he intervened, the entire family would be stoned along with her, as she brought shame to their tribe and teh family. While this may not be acceptable in your world, it is accepable in many.

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
Why can't we reserve our comments to the American culture and what is legal and illegal in our country? We all know other countries and cultures have different rules. We do have a standard of law here that defines the limits of "right" and "wrong" for us as a society.

What consenting adult men and women do in the privacy of their own home is between them and God unless they break the law.

What adults do to non-consenting adults and children is a different matter altogether - that's why we have laws on the books to protect us.

TX
I live 40 miles from Eldorado and in the town where the 400+ women and 150+ children are being housed and cared for. The whole mess started when a 16 year old girl called a hotline in response to being physically abused (broken ribs) by her "spiritual" husband. Child Protective Services was called in to the Compound to look for her. Abuse is against the law. What they found in the Compound was several "young" pregnant girls and "young" girls who had small children. It is also against the Texas law to have sex with minors or to be married below the age of 16 even with parents' consent. The State of Texas has taken custody of many of the children and removed them from an "unhealthy and dangerous" situation. Many of the mothers came with them. It has nothing to do with religion; it is about unlawful acts. Please pray for our town and especially for those children and women. They have been moved 3 and 4 times due to the increasing number, and now 16 or so of the children have chickenpox and must again be separated.
