Now ops, that form of logic doesn't work!

At one time African Americans weren't people and women couldn't vote (all by law).

Also, abortion is currently legal. So that would mean, you are saying those who are pro-life should move?

It was tongue in cheek, dear AG.

My bad.

Now take that tongue out of that cheek.

Or at least use

It's about forcing marriages on women and children

No 12 or 13 year old should ever have to enter into any type of marriage. We do know that is right!!!

Just for the sake of arguement, many countries in the world still arrange marriages for the females, with marriage occurring, at times, before the child is a teenager. It is done for many reasons, but it is still done.

Going back to the mid-1800s, many females in the US who were unmarried at the age of 15
Quote:
were considered old maids
. While our country has, for the most part, moved past this and deems it "socially uacceptable" to marry a young girl, many states still allow girls as young as 16 to marry with their parents permission. Several states allow emancipated minors to marry without parents permission. in 1958, Jerry Lee Lewis, themn 23, married his first wife (and first cousin) who was only 13 at the time.

While you may abhor this religion and their marriage beliefs, they have been consistent in their teachings since breaking off from the main Mormon Church, leading me to conclude that they believe they are correct.

Wow, this thread is all over the place. I would say as parents and citizens it is their job to raise their children in a safe environment and live within the law. I think the parents of these kids dropped the ball on both issues.

In this country if you rape or abuse a child you go to jail regardless of your religious beliefs.

How horribly unfair. Who are we to tell people who they can and cannot marry.

People all through history have been tormented, abused and enslaved all in the name of religion. Whether we believe ourselves to be right or wrong there is higher power who will judge all one day. I know in the Bible it says "judge not lest ye be judged" but God has given us a guide to know right from wrong and anytime someone causes harm to another person that's just not right. There's not one place in the Bible where Jesus had to abuse someone to make them comply with his beliefs and there's just no place in society that calls for such actions.

Why would I want more than one wife?

So the DVR is filled with even more shows from TLC and Lifetime?

So I have even less personal space and free time?

So there are more bathrooms in the house with the toilet paper going the wrong way on the holder?

Oh sure, sign me right up for that he!!

Wow, you must read the edited version of the Bible. I can think of numerous palces where killing took place on God's behalf, or at his behest. And, this may be a surprise to you, not all religions believe in the God opf the Bible, much less Jesus.

Wasn't polygamy practiced in the Bible? (throwing the grenade and running out of the room)

see... you just cant say it is wrong and illegal without looking into the implications of a reversed situation

What if "everything you know is wrong"

but alas, closed minded banter... just to make yourself feel better about your own situation in life

Yes it was practiced in the old testament. I'm also aware that many wars were waged on behalf of God. I also know that many people don't believe in the Bible or Jesus, but we're talking about a religious cult whose fundementals are based on the Bible.

Damn, why polygamy? One woman's crabbing and nagging is enough for a lifetime, much less a harem of wives.

Wow, you must be referring to the old testement, the books that were written before Jesus died for our sins on the cross.
Jesus was never abusive.

Oh, brother!

Why is it people argue so passionately about things when they know it won't change anyone else's opinion?

Because it's the people who are passionate about their beliefs that can change the world.
